Hab bei 95tkm meinem Zahnriemen gewechselt. ALH, 66kW, 1.9 TDI.
After 5,000 km, the tensioner pulley broke and cut the timing belt in half. I received a new tensioner pulley and a new timing belt free of charge as a goodwill gesture.
Yesterday, after another 30,000 kilometers, the same thing happened again.
The tensioner pulley is broken, and the nose has come loose, which resulted in insufficient tension on the timing belt, causing it to slip.

My question is whether this has happened to any of you before?
When installing the tensioner, it's hard to do anything wrong.

It's unbelievable that this could happen twice in a row. Once after 5,000 km and again after 30,000 km. Now, within 35,000 km, I'm replacing the timing belt for the third time on this vehicle...
Incredible.

Best, Chris.

Hi,

My apologies. It sounds like you're still lucky in a bad situation, and the engine hasn't completely failed yet.

Since I also have an ALH engine, I would be interested in the part number of the defective tensioner. Mine has lasted for about 1.5 years and 25,000 km.

Perhaps it's a systematic defect?

Hi Buster0815,

I've also had the tensioner fail before; it's the part where the two prongs are.
The key broke off while I was trying to tighten something. However, I had the timing belt replaced by a workshop.
Let me know. What was broken on yours?

The metal piece that connects to the engine near the front always breaks.
The first time it happened, it completely shattered, and a broken piece sliced through my timing belt, severing it almost in half.
Last time, it 'only' cracked, and the nose popped out of its mount.
Then the rhyme didn't have enough tension and was skipped over.

Best regards, Chris.
