23-05-2004, 16:01 Subject: After an oil change, does "Longlife" no longer apply? |

Hello,
I bought a Golf IV PD 74KW from the largest and most reputable dealer in the Rhein-Main area three weeks ago. The car is a 2003 model and was first registered in June 2003. The car came with "Longlife" oil at the time of delivery. After 2 days and a mileage of 25Tkm, the "Service" warning light came on. After calling my seller, I was told that I would also receive a free inspection. I picked up the car from the garage, and it turned out that only an oil change had been done. The vehicle did not receive long-life oil and has been switched to the standard service interval.
Now my question:
Is this okay and does it make sense, or was the seller just trying to save money at my expense?
How do I get my Longlife interval back?
Greetings and thank you very much!
Holger

Here, the dealer fills the tank with the cheaper non-LL oil and takes the full interval in exchange.

Hello Bertil,
thank you for your response. I already knew that I could change the type of interval. I probably didn't express myself clearly, sorry.
It's about the new oil. Can I simply refill with LL-oil and adjust the interval after 40Tkm?
Does it make sense to bridge the time/km until the first "proper" inspection with non-LL oil and then refill with LL oil?
Best regards,
Holger |

Hi Bertil,
Does the fixed/flexible interval method + coding also apply to the Polo 9N? It is not listed in the model list in the technical article... Gruß Ulf

Ah, so...
Of course, you can switch between fixed and flexible intervals at any time. However, you should always use the appropriate oil. Specifically, when using LL, you should always use the expensive LL oil. Without LL, it's up to you which of the two oils to use; however, the cheaper one (which is not LL-compatible) is sufficient.
@Ulf
Unfortunately, I don't have any information about the newer cars (G5, Touran, Phaeton, Touareg, and also the Polo 9N). Do you have any then you can add them. Gruß Bertil

Hello!
I have a question about the Longlife service.
I have had my 9N since February 2003, so it is now 18 months old.
Three weeks ago, I had a problem where, after turning on the ignition, there was a [MARKER]
for a few seconds a wrench and then a mileage reading
from 13,700 KM, at this point I had 19,200 KM on the odometer.
So far so good, I've already been preparing for an inspection at 13,700 KM,
two days ago, the odometer reading was still at 11,900 KM
a clock with a 2 following it.
Yesterday, however, the doorbell rang and he said, 'Service!!'
'The statement 'Up to 30,000 KM but no later than 2 years' means that I understand it to mean:
that when I reach the variable 'Kilometergrenze' for inspection
or, at the latest, after 2 years, which is not the case now with 18 months
the case is.
The car is brand new, it's a 74KW PD TDI, and I'm driving it like this
medium distance, ranging from 13 to 28 KM per day, depending on the circumstances.
So, the one from VW should be understandable, meaning, after the complaint, they will pay 30,000.
almost complied after 2 years, now I need to go after 18 months
Service and the odometer shows 20,800 KM. My workshop is also fixed.
I believe that I should be assigned to the inspection, but I am not, because I am probably still
11900Km with oil can run.
Is it the case that the display of the remaining days counts down from 730 to 0?
or are there also jumps here? That means there are actually no 730 days.
...sind auch nicht so gut.
It's a shame I don't have a VAG-COM, otherwise I could reset the trip counter again.
'I'll continue driving and rely on the remaining mileage, or else, after 2 years'
So, bitte im Februar 2005 zur Inspektion bringen.
Does anyone have a tip on how to solve this?
Must bring the car in for a service on 24.8. due to warranty.
Workshop, perhaps the inspection will also be done at the same time, which is what I want.
but actually, no, because I believe that I am being 'scammed' by the advertisement. |

Yes!
GO!
There is written:
Inspection Service after flexible service interval display ... but no later than 24 months ...
With the LL Service, Volkswagen has developed a technology that reliably and with minimal effort ensures the traffic and operational safety of your vehicle.
The special thing about this is that, when determining the service intervals, the individual operating conditions and the driver's personal driving style are taken into account.
That means, without a doubt, that the service interval will be shortened if you:
- many cold starts / short distances
- often driving under heavy loads (e.g., with trailers, fully loaded on highways, or driving uphill with heavy loads)
- High volume of Sop and Go traffic
- Poor warm-up phases
- and various other "sins"
With distances ranging from 13-28km, you are perfectly suited for short-distance cycling!
To achieve optimal engine warming (i.e., not just warming up the heating system), you typically need to drive for at least 30km.
That should clearly explain why your ad is sending you for service so early. That is indeed correct. Your workshop is also right.
Setting the days back with VAG COM won't really help you. The service request remains.
The WIV interval for diesel engines is typically between a minimum of 15tkm and a maximum of 50tkm (depending on engine load), or a maximum of 2 years.
The display shows you, depending on the loads, the remaining distance to the service point. Will the remaining distance not be zeroed out within 2 years? If so, you will be required to proceed.
WIV does not mean that your service interval is automatically 30,000 km (as you wrote)
WIV should rather be called "Service Interval Based on Load" for better understanding.
My first WIV service was not at 50,000 km, but actually at 23,000 km. Gruß Bertil

Hello!
Okay, here's the translation:
So, here's a big thank you!
As for the cold starts, I've completely forgotten about them, just like you.
then I will also understand the matter.
I assumed that the factor of time is a fixed size of 24 months.
that, of course, the time also must be variable, due to the factors you mentioned.
Otherwise, one would have to proportionally reduce the kilometers, which is simpler.
and understandable.
Helped me a lot!
So, then I'll just let the service handle it - it's a shame that I don't have the
Servicemeister, I couldn't explain it as well as you could

As for that, I'd rather not say anything.
Often, men simply lack the words (or the knowledge ), so it's difficult to explain something like this in a visual way.
By the way, I am also already suffering from forgetfulness. Here's the translation:

My A6 (with WIV), which my wife drove almost exclusively on her way to and from work, needed a service already at 13,500 KM.
That would likely prove that intervals of less than 15,000 KM are also possible.
For this, it would probably be better to switch to a fixed interval. However, I did not do this, as the KM reached 13,500 only after approximately 16 months.
Best regards, D. |

Good morning!
Oh, 13,000 KM isn't really that much
I can be quite satisfied with my almost 21,000.
@Bertil
I've read the report thoroughly, and it's exactly what you said.
well explained. Now I'm a little wiser and happier - my Polo.
don't cheat on me |

However, this only applies if the 15,000 km in a year are not reached (i.e., very short distances). Gruß Bertil

It's not even a short distance, really. At least, it included a vacation trip with 2,500 KM.
The AUDI is for... Currently, it is only rarely used (as golf is still available, see below).
