Post18-06-2004, 18:35    Subject: Passat 3B - Issues with Comfort Control Unit / Instrument Cluster Quote

Hello,
'Recently, I became the proud owner of a 1998 Passat Variant Syncro with an AFN engine. I'm experiencing some issues with the comfort control unit. The previous owner had the multi-function display (with navigation) replaced shortly before selling it to me (part number 3B0 919 890 MX, costing 350 Euros).'

1. I can't pair the remote control.
AußerdeIt worked during the test drive with the old MFA (Multi-Function Display).

2. The channel assignments in the comfort control unit do not match the channel assignments I have found on various websites. In my case, channel 3 is 'Auto Lock,' channel 4 'Auto Unlock' is missing, channels 6 'Horn for unlocking' through 9 'Flashing lights for locking' are shifted down by one (channels 5 through icon_cool.gif, and channel 10 is missing again. However, I can adjust the horn for unlocking, for example.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get the remote working or what might be broken?

Is it possible that the instrument cluster is incorrect, and how can I check this?

Could it be that the incorrect channel assignment is due to the Syncro system having something different than usual?

Is the comfort control unit integrated into the instrument cluster and therefore has it been replaced?

In my desperation, I wanted to re-initialize the keys with the instrument cluster. On my key card, a 4-digit code is revealed after scratching. However, VAG COM requires a 5-digit or a 7-digit code. How can I proceed?

Thank you in advance for your numerous responses.
Bye.

Hello,
I expected to be able to ask a question, but I was scolded almost as soon as I did.

'Of course, I'm familiar with those two links, as I've been searching for the solution in the forum for a few weeks now. The guide from Ross Tech that I mentioned in my question is specifically designed for VAG COM, but otherwise describes the same process as the one by Michael II. Unfortunately, neither of them works. That's why I'm at a loss.'

Regards,
Michael.

Who's poking around here?

Okay, okay.

It was supposed to be a joke, but I probably used the wrong tone.

Sorry.

I can, for example, adjust the door lock confirmation sound.

Could it be that the incorrect channel assignment is due to the Syncro system having something different than usual?

Is the comfort control unit inside the instrument cluster and therefore has it been replaced?

The comfort control unit is separate. I'm hearing about 'shifted channels' for the first time; based on your description, it seems like you have a completely different software version installed. The missing channel 10 could potentially be explained by a missing vehicle immobilizer (DWA).

What is the part number and software version of your comfort control unit?

Hello Theresias,
The comfort control unit has the following part number from the VAG group:
1J0 959 799 J and is called...

OE Central-SG Comfort 0001.

Soft Coding: 04097, which corresponds to a central locking system (ZV), 4 door handles, and complete door unlocking.

I don't know the software version. How can I find it out?

Goodbye.

Could you please check if the key and the comfort control unit are transmitting on the same frequency? They might not be synchronized, which could explain why nothing is working.
Because a certain change was made starting with a specific production year.
The frequency is written on the key, but you need to check the control unit. icon_rolleyes.gif

The comfort control unit has not been replaced, and it was working before the instrument cluster was changed. This means that the frequencies must be compatible. I assume that the frequencies cannot be altered.

It might be related to the communication between the combination instrument and the comfort control unit. I'm not entirely sure how it applies in your specific case. However, with the Passat 3BG, some of these issues are often caused by communication problems via the CAN bus. If a different combination instrument was installed...

Perhaps this is a starting point.

If there were communication problems, it would switch to single-wire CAN mode and store that information in the error memory.

I don't have any CAN.

CORRECT! icon_lol.gif

However, communication errors would still be stored in the error memory.

Hello,
to add to the confusion:

On the Ross-tech homepage, I found a channel assignment for the comfort control unit that largely matches mine: channels 3 to 8 (except for 4 – which is missing 'auto unlock' in my car) are the same. This applies specifically to vehicles exported to the USA.

Could it be that I got some kind of export version for the Inner Mongolia region? icon_cry.gif

Further oddities:
When I activate 'Auto Lock,' channel 3, the doors lock reliably above 15 km/h. However, when the ignition key is removed, the doors unlock, which is actually what 'Auto Unlock' should do. Additionally, during driving, the doors sometimes lock and unlock randomly for no apparent reason.

I have configured the 'horn activation' feature (set to channel 5 on my system), even though it's not allowed. Sometimes the horn sounds when I turn the key (at the beginning of the unlocking process), and sometimes only after the locks have been unlocked (at the end of the unlocking process).

Is that normal?

Bye icon_wink.gif.
