Hello,

"On my Polo, both of the side air intakes in the front spoiler are open."
On the right side, you'll find the cooling air intake for the engine's cooling system.

But there's nothing comparable behind it - except for the temperature sensor of the MFA in one corner and the horn.

I've now seen these grilles in a closed version on gasoline engines (except for a small hole for the MFA sensor).
It also makes sense, I think, because of the improved aerodynamics. And apparently, the horn can still be heard...

Could there be a technical reason why my left spoiler grille allows (salt) spray to reach the control arms, driveshaft, etc. icon_eek.gif icon_question.gif?

Hi,

I don't think there's a technical reason for it, because if there's nothing to cool, there doesn't need to be a grill.

Sure, here's the translation:

"Okay, I'm in 'explain mode'."

- so that it looks symmetrical?
- so that the workshop doesn't have to think about which side the LLK (low-loss cable) is on.

Best regards,

Jan.

Hi Jan,

The only thing that could potentially be cooled by it is the transmission, but even then, most of the air simply flows around it from the side and bottom through the grille.

Brakes are also ruled out, because there's no branch leading to the wheel behind the right lower radiator grille.

clean look

It's probably going to be like this... I'm already thinking about how to capture the additional airflow and direct it into a flexible hose (behind the grill, so it doesn't look too flashy) and then feed it into the poorly designed system called the LLK (Low-Temperature Coolant) air duct on the other side.

It looks quite tight if you want to run a hose with a usable cross-section straight through the front of the car. icon_eek.gif

@ Bertil: The extra weight of the hose is roughly compensated for by the missing grid back panel icon_rolleyes.gif.

Wie jetzt nicht wies bei deinem Polo ausschaut, aber unterm Kühler wäre doch evtl. Platz für so einen Schlauch. AbDoes it make a difference?
If that were the case, you would need some kind of funnel in front of the hose to collect the air.
But whether you can actually feel the extra airflow is anyone's guess. The LLK (presumably a device) would also need to be directly blown on to have any effect.

I'm not sure how it would look on your Polo right now, but maybe there's space under the radiator for a hose like that.

I need to take a closer look, especially at the front bumper. Based on my initial assessment, it's definitely not going to be easy.

No, I think it should be sufficient to install it with the opening facing forward.
In this process, the airflow creates pressure and pushes the air through the hose into the intake of the charge air cooler.
There, the "air from the left" should be drawn in by the normal airflow towards the LLK (likely referring to a specific system or component).

The LLK would also need to be directly activated to achieve an effect.

He will, but with a bottleneck = NSW in the airflow to the radiator.
Basically, I'm trying to create a kind of bypass around this bottleneck to increase the flow of cooling air towards the LLK (likely referring to a specific component or area).
