Hi.

I've also been experimenting with the 10-cent tuning. It works well, and there are no issues from the EDC, even without a diode (apparently, the first 1Z models didn't have a start check).
My problem now is that the boost pressure control has become VERY unstable. Before, everything worked perfectly at 0.85 bar, with almost no overshoots (I have a LDA!). Now, especially in third gear under full load at 2000 RPM, there are overshoots up to 1.1 bar icon_eek.gif, and at 3000 RPM, while it maintains the 0.85 bar, the pressure oscillates up and down by 0.05 bar. I replaced the pressure hoses and the solenoid valve two months ago.
Is this normal for a 1Z engine after being tuned, and can I live with it, or is my turbocharger going to fail?

Regards,
Jan.

P.S. I just noticed that "x world one" has the same problem, but it seems like it hasn't been fixed.

Hi Jan,

I once connected a regular pressure gauge when I was still very young.

Since the "normal" readings are not dampened, the pointer fluctuates wildly, but you can still discern a trend.

Even WITHOUT any modifications, I was getting overboost values in this range (this was also with the old magnetic valve). I only replaced it because the old one was rattling when the engine was idling.

I think that the overspeeders are not being monitored critically, and you won't be able to get rid of them because the EDC (Electronic Diesel Control) system doesn't account for the increased exhaust flow.

Regulations are always designed based on certain external parameters (in this case, the emission limit of 35.2 mg/h), and when you change those parameters, the regulations can sometimes become somewhat misaligned.

PS: How do you read a 0.05 bar swing value?

I have an industrial pressure gauge connected to it, which I've dampened so that readings can be taken. The gauge has a resolution of 0.02 bar and seems to be very accurate overall.

How about you? Have you done any 10-cent tuning, and has anything changed regarding the overshoots?

What I've also noticed is that the boost pressure is now at 0.8 bar at 1800 rpm, which used to only happen at 2000 rpm. Who needs a VTG turbocharger for fast boost build-up icon_cool.gif

At what pressure does a 1Z typically switch to emergency mode?

/Jan
