Hello! I'm new here, so please excuse me if I ask any questions that everyone else might find boring.

I really want to have a cruise control system installed in my Golf 4 (with pump injectors). There are the most contradictory statements about this.

1. Boys on the internet think it's possible, and that you shouldn't be discouraged by a 'no' from someone in Wolfsburg.
2. The VW customer magazine says it's okay.
3. My workshop called Bosch, and they said it was NOT possible!

Does anyone have any ideas? 'If necessary, could you also provide a reliable source or a relevant internet link?'

Thank you for the responses.
Regards,
Mike.

Hello Mike,

What specific pump-nozzle are we talking about? What's the engine code? I have an AXR (77 kW) and successfully installed a GRA a few weeks ago. It wasn't a problem. I had the steering column switch installed by a Volkswagen mechanic due to the airbag system, but I did the wiring myself. The dealer took care of unlocking it right away.

Regards,

Holger.

It's okay. My AXR (74kW PD) also had a GRA retrofit installed by my workshop.

2. The VW customer magazine says it's okay.

Which Volkswagen customer magazine?
If you're referring to "Gute Fahrt," it's not a publication released by Volkswagen, nor does it have any connection to VW.

The problem with these statements is that VW has not approved the retrofit kit for PD models. Therefore, it is not legally possible. Technically, there are no problems whatsoever.
The retrofitting process is essentially the same as it is for VP engines.

Thank you, that helps me.
Yes, it was 'Gute Fahrt.'

Hello Holger,

Since when has the AXR engine had a power output of 77 kW?
Mine "only" got 74.

Hello Bertil,

Of course, the AXR has 74 kW; it was unfortunately a typo on my part. icon_sad.gif

My dealer told me it wouldn't work on my car and that there was no retrofit kit available. However, I bought the steering column lever separately, and it worked. That is why the question about the MKB arises.
I probably should have added that earlier...

At least not without a significant amount of effort:

The year 2001 is the cutoff point; according to a reputable workshop, there are no issues beyond that year.
Starting with model year 2002, the corresponding wiring is no longer included in the wiring harness.
Mine is from 2002 icon_sad.gif.

"You're right, I forgot to mention... mine is also an MJ 2002 model, and it's missing the wiring harness for the control unit." It has to be manufactured by the workshop itself.

Of course, a significant sum of money will be due in that case...
Too bad, it's a good idea, but not economically feasible.
I guess I'll have to pay more attention when buying my next car.

My dealer installed the GRA (Gas Reinforced Asphalt) and the detachable trailer hitch for me at no extra cost when I bought the (used) car. Looking back, I have to say it was a great deal.

I don't quite understand this thing about the missing wiring harness icon_confused.gif? Isn't this about the wiring from the GRA steering wheel switch to the control unit, or? Shouldn't that be part of the GRA installation kit icon_wink.gif? Although my car is a Passat from 1998, even then the necessary wires weren't pre-installed. And while the installation is somewhat time-consuming for a do-it-yourself project, it is still definitely manageable icon_razz.gif.

Best, Sascha.
