Hi.
I removed my EGR valve, and everything is fine.
"The problem is that a screw on the intake manifold is now stripped! I've already tried using a TX40 screwdriver, but it wouldn't grip, and it eventually started to strip the screw head even further."
http://www.luxus-wg.de/~martin/auto_bilder/schruabe_rund.jpg
Do you have any ideas? I've taken everything apart, and the standard VW U-washers won't fit either (and the old ones are stuck fast to the screws!!!)
How do I get the screw out? Please help me!

To be honest, I don't know how much space you have. But my suggestions would be:
1. Drill off the head! Once the head is off, you can remove the bridge, and the remaining part should then come out easily with pliers.
2. Use a Dremel to cut a slot and then unscrew it. The intake manifold shouldn't have *that* much torque, though... otherwise, the old one wouldn't have become warped.
3. Left turn (but requires some space).
4. Maybe you could also make a notch and then use a screwdriver and hammer to force it in?
I wish you all the best!
Dirk, *fingers crossed*
Just had to drill off the head of a G4 door lock. It was hardened to 8.8, but it came off really quickly and easily. Not even a scratch on the threads. Audi A3 Sportback [8PA], 2.0 TDI CR [CFGB], STH mit FB

If there's enough space, I would weld a hexagonal socket onto/into it. That should allow you to turn the screw. If necessary, I would even sacrifice the Torx (if it's a torque socket) and weld a hexagonal socket in its place. Then you can loosen it with a ratchet.
It might cost you a nut. The hexagonal shape (if available) is the more cost-effective solution.

1. To:
"It's not possible because it's a transverse engine. I can't access anything from that angle."
2.
I've thought about that before, but as I said, it's tight.
I'm trying to glue an Allen wrench into place right now.
If you have any more tips, please share them.
I'll report back shortly... Transparency, Teamwork

Glue?
If that works, I (and probably some others) would like to know the name of the adhesive...

Hello,
I would use a small pipe wrench to turn the screw head (make sure to position the wrench correctly so that the teeth can grip the head).
Otherwise, use a small chisel to tap the screw.
If absolutely nothing works with a flat chisel, just knock the Kpof off!
Then you can remove the bridge and use a pipe wrench to unscrew the screw.
Best regards, Jürgen.

Oh crap.
Use an Allen key and sharpen the tip, working with plenty of water cooling – it must not get too hot (the color of the material should not change). Then, tap the sharpened edges into the deformed head. This usually helps, as it deforms the material similarly to a chisel and causes it to adhere to the walls. Otherwise, drilling is an option, using an angle drill. Make sure to plug any open channels. When working on the screw, apply some pressure to the heat shield to allow for a shorter socket to be used comfortably. The longer sockets are often overwhelmed by the torque required. If it's only one screw, perhaps twisting the bridge could help initiate the loosening process.
Good luck, Robert.

Gluing obviously didn't work .
Sure, no problem.
That will probably be the only option.
Because the head is so hidden that you can't reach it with any kind of pliers.
Currently, I still have the "emergency exit" option of re-tightening the other screws and not inserting the bridge... but the U-washers don't fit .
Can I use regular glass there, or should it have specific properties because the bridge is exposed to certain thermal stresses?
Oh, what a mess, I knew beforehand that something would go wrong .
A colleague is coming over soon with a Dremel tool and a chisel, and then things are going to get really interesting...
If necessary, I'll just have to embarrass myself by complaining to VW, and let them get away with it...
*in a rather bad mood*

With a good chisel and a hammer, you can get everything apart.

Thanks to the chisel, the bridge is gone.
