TDI Timing Help: Strange Error Message?

I once tried using VCDS to check the TDI timing and received a message that made me a bit concerned: 'timing is too advanced to be plotted.' After putting in a lot of effort to get the engine temperature to 85 degrees Celsius, I received this message. The car is a Passat 3B, TDI, AJM with 115 hp. Is it really possible that the timing is that far advanced, or is this message just a joke? The car seems to be running fine overall and sounds like any other PD diesel. The timing belt was replaced at 120,000 km, and now the car has 155,000 km on it and should still be working for a while. I would appreciate any answers that can help me with this.

The error message simply means that the injection point is outside the visible range.

But the Passat is actually running perfectly fine - shouldn't that be noticeable???

Normally, yes, due to factors like poor starting behavior and increased fuel consumption.

Now I've looked it up: AJM is actually a PD engine. I somehow assumed it was a VP, and unfortunately, I'm also unsure about the injection start timing for PD engines.

Could it be that, in a PD (Pump-Düse) engine, the TDI-Timing function (TDI-Graph) simply doesn't work at all?

On the TDI-Timing website, it states:
Quote 1:
Note: This DOES NOT apply.
to 1.9 PD (unit injector) engines.

Quote 2:
Note to 1.9 PD (pump düse, also unit injectors) owners: you cannot, and do not need to, set your timing electronically. There are no graphs published for the simple reason that the timing is set using a dedicated VAG locking tool when changing the timing belt .

I translated it in a way that indicates there are no electronic adjustments for the PD motor.
but rather the start of injection using a VW tool (similar to the round pin used in the VP-ESP).

Thank you for the links - now I can imagine how to adjust a PD motor.
It works, if I ever happen to have a TDI with a PD engine .
But my statement that TDI timing only works with VP engines - and that's why...
Is that what the thread is about, or am I wrong?

Yes, the TDI timing checker is only for engines with a distributor injection pump.

Thanks for the info - I probably could have figured that out myself.

The PD (phase difference) is only adjustable using the dial indicator; nothing else works.

What are you talking about? Are you referring to the timing or the preload setting of the PDEs? *looks questioningly*
