Hello to those who know.

I'd be interested to know how much air a turbocharger delivers, for example, at a boost pressure of 1 bar.
What data is needed to calculate the performance? Does anyone have a formula for me, or does anyone know the answer?

The background is that, as you know, my car (A6 2.5TDi with engine code AEL) doesn't really start to perform well until around 2000 RPM, and this bothers me.

I was wondering if a powerful electric blower (I saw one that delivers 15,000 liters per minute) could compensate for the "rpm drop" issue with the Mango.
I thought about mounting the blower in front of the intake manifold, controlling it based on engine speed (e.g., idle to 2000 RPM), and then it would take off icon_mrgreen.gif, or maybe not new_cry.gif.

Could this work, or am I completely crazy icon_eek.gif?

Well,

"Anyone who has a turbo will eventually have this idea... and then reject it."

Do you realize how much power this thing consumes?
To do that, you would have to pack so many batteries into your car that it wouldn't be able to move afterward, or you wouldn't be able to stop it with the brakes icon_wink.gif.

And they had to be recharged, so later on you'd be slower because your alternator was braking the car, or it would simply burn out.

Just let it be and focus on improving the well-known areas instead.

- Test the LMM (likely referring to a Lambda Measurement Module).
- Possibly replace it with a diode.
- This way, it will never reach the Russian border.
- 10 cent tuning - makes a significant difference - even at low RPMs.
- AGR off - the tractor becomes a bit more responsive because it doesn't have to clear its "lungs" of dirt first.

Hi,

You can easily calculate the air flow, at least approximately:

For each revolution, a four-stroke engine takes in half the engine displacement in fresh air (roughly calculated, ignoring flow losses). If you now force air into the cylinder with a pressure of 1 bar above atmospheric pressure, it's equivalent to the full engine displacement, which in your case is 2.5 liters (again, a very rough estimate, as many factors are being ignored).

At 2000 revolutions per minute, you would need 2000 rpm x 2.5 liters = 5000 liters per minute, with an overpressure of 1 bar.

The quantity itself isn't the main problem; rather, it's the pressure, as that requires a significant amount of compression work. A turbocharger extracts 10...20 kW of power from the exhaust gases to achieve this, and you would have to replicate that electrically, which leads to the problem that Martin mentioned.

At 12 volts, that would be over 1000 amperes flowing!

Best regards,

Jan (who has also considered something like that before).

hi dieselmartin,
My AGR is unfortunately defective, and I have 2 chips inside. I can still deal with the issue related to the diode.
But what about the batteries?
The blower's power consumption is 3.25 amperes, and I don't want it to run constantly, only up to 2000 RPM.
Do you have any idea how I can calculate the flow rate, and whether it can function as described otherwise?

Hi,

At 3.25 amps and 12 volts, the fan only consumes 39 watts. To achieve significant effects, you would need several kilowatts.

Best regards,

Jan.

hi Jan6K,
Thank you for the formula.
Apparently, it's a new system that they've also patented, and it's already been installed in a Mercedes.
Unfortunately, I don't know how to include an HTTP page in this.
The part is being offered on eBay - the keyword is "turbocharger," and it's included in that listing.

That would be a nice little toilet fan.

Forget about it; you won't be able to solve your problem with toys from eBay (we were just discussing that recently).

...

and if I stick magnetic stones to the fuel lines for just €99.95, it consumes a whole 2 liters less!

Hi,

You won't be able to find the thread; it was either deleted or blocked because of inappropriate content (and the topic was only one aspect of it).

Just take the power calculation into account; it simply won't work. On eBay, only one person is selling an expensive 12-volt toilet flusher.

@Joergs: Seriously, we had discussed this at our regular get-together.

Best regards,

Jan.

Well... that's why I asked.
...how does the diode work, and is there a technical article about it?
But I still don't know how much power my turbocharger adds, where can I find technical specifications?

@jan

You're right about the topic we were discussing at the table. It's about Alzheimer's disease.

@bastiana
In short: stay away from it. It will only cost you money and won't bring any benefits. 40 watts isn't the real power, and the claimed 15,000 liters per minute only creates airflow, not the necessary pressure!
