The fan on my Audi starts at approximately 97.8 degrees Celsius.
Then it cools down quite quickly to 95 degrees. But even so, it still seems a bit late to me.
I would be very happy to hear your thoughts on this.
According to the "How-to" manual for the G3, the switching levels for the thermostat are:
Stage 1: Heat to 92-97°C, then reduce heat to 84-91°C.
Set the temperature to level 2 at 99-105°C, and reduce it to 91-98°C for the final stage.
The switch is located (at least on the G3 model) at about half the height of the radiator, which, in my opinion, is already a bit cooler than at the engine outlet where the temperature sensor is located.
--> A sensor that provides slightly higher readings, and a switch that activates a bit later (all within the normal tolerances), could, in my opinion, already explain your observation.
Did you determine the "comma temperature" using VAG-COM?
According to my VAG-COM readings, the fan doesn't turn on until the temperature reaches 97-98 degrees Celsius, and that's on the first setting. I can barely get it to run on the second setting when the car is stationary. It only works if I turn on the air conditioning.
It seems everything is okay!
