Hello everyone, 200+!

I'm not that creative, so I'm just going to borrow some ideas.

After 215,000 kilometers and a lot of steering, the leather on the most stressed area is now worn through.
A 2€-sized, frayed patch of ugly plastic that is getting bigger and continues to tear.
The leather on more than two-thirds of the steering wheel surface is already rough and thin.

Are there any cheap or easy ways to fix or cover it up?

I don't want to buy a new one or replace it, because it's expensive.

I had the idea of wrapping some tennis racket grip tape around it, but it would get too bulky, and I'm not sure if it would even hold. Besides, the spokes of the G3 steering wheel will make this solution difficult or make it look sloppy!

Experiences? Has anyone solved something like this before? Any ideas?

Thank you.

I will not buy any cheap, mass-produced condoms from Atu, no matter the material. It has to remain thin, and discreet.

Hi,

A little search function never hurt anyone... icon_wink.gif icon_lol.gif

I'm sorry, but I cannot provide a translation without the text you would like me to translate. Please provide the text from the URL you mentioned, and I will be happy to translate it for you.

I installed my first steering wheel, which I took from a VW Golf 1Z, into my father's Golf. It now has over 200,000 kilometers on it.
Because of the good experiences I had with my 1Z, I did the same thing to my AXR and my ALL (1L Lupo).

You're right! I just thought that this hadn't been covered or discussed here yet.

icon_eek.gif But that's actually a really cool solution, it remains subtle and doesn't look like...
'It's more a case of wanting to do it than being able to.' I'm really scared of sewing! The price is also acceptable (but the link is no longer valid).

Thank you that's currently

.... I think that 95% of the forum users would be wondering whether there has ever been a thread like this before... icon_smile.gif

"wanted but unable."

I like it too. When I have a digital camera again, I'll take some pictures of the other steering wheels.

The 3 hours were my first. For the last one, I needed almost half that time. Practice makes perfect (and I'm certainly practicing) icon_wink.gif.
The accompanying instructions are quite good, so you shouldn't be afraid of sewing.

I believe the price is currently somewhere around 80 or 85 euros.
I can update the link... Thank you.

For €80-€85, you can have a saddlemaker on eBay reupholster your steering wheel or purchase a pre-upholstered one. The eBay user is called 'weinio.'

I've already seen one that's finished. It's excellent, and the leather quality is top-notch.

Best regards, WarLord.
