AFN glow plug blinking - error code 01237 - ignition timing adjustment

'Hi, the Golf Mk3 was running great until now. The problem is that the preheating light suddenly started flashing, there's no power anymore, and error code 01237 is displayed, which indicates a timing adjustment issue.'

What could it be this time? The posts always only mention the fuel shut-off valve, but nothing about ignition timing adjustment. And there's no fuel visible or smellable in the engine compartment either.

It's not about adjusting the ignition timing; it's about adjusting the ignition angle.
