Hello,

For my driving performance calculations, I need the GKB value, which in this country is combined with the ARL.

The gear list includes the following codes: DRV, EFF, ERF, FEK, FEL, FMH, and FMQ icon_eek.gif.

Since the Audi ARL engine was only available with the Golf in the sedan version (front-wheel drive and syncro), there should actually only have been 2 different types of transmissions installed.

Or was there ever a change from a long to a short gearbox, like in the current 96 kW Ibiza/Polo?

However, there is also an ARL Bora Variant (but only as a Highline model).

And since the 3-door variants have different transmissions than the sedans...

I don't know what the f*ck it was.

I can only speak for a friend: ARL ERF combination in golf.
However, a colleague has a Golf 1J estate with an ASZ engine, which is exactly the same as my Golf (a standard configuration).
So, it's also possible that the Bora Variant received it.
"But isn't it possible that VW also makes the transmission dependent on the combination of wheels and tires used? I know of a 4-door Sportline with standard 17-inch wheels that has a different transmission than the one I have in my ASZ, even though the other equipment is identical. Something with a D**, sorry, I don't remember the exact model. I originally had 15-inch wheels."

That would generally make sense because the 6th gear from the ERF is "too long" for the ASZ engine and would be a better fit for the ARL engine (maximum speed = 216 km/h at 3956 rpm).
In 5th gear, even the ASZ over-revs at its maximum speed (you should know that icon_wink.gif).

The rim size doesn't necessarily tell you anything about the rolling circumference. icon_cool.gif
Tires with the size 205/50 R17 have practically the same circumference as the standard size for the G4, which is 195/65 R14. Therefore, it would be quite possible to use the same gearbox.

The DRV (if applicable) generally has a slightly shorter gear ratio than the ERF (216 @ 4363 rpm with 195/65 R 15) and is likely to feel "sportier" as a result.

For a while, both the ASZ and ARL models had front-wheel drive and used the ERF engine.
The engine just kept revving up. From what I understand, it's exceeding 4,000 RPM well beyond the maximum speed.

My ASZ (automatic speed control) with the ERF (engine control unit) already reaches just over 4,000 RPM at maximum speed.

I know someone who drives an ARL-Bora variant.
The request is being processed, and I will follow up with you again.

Aber doch wohl im 5. Hey, how's it going?

In the 6th gear, you would already need to be driving at around 220 km/h, which, according to the official data, is not even enough to reach the ARL (acceleration and roadholding limit).

No, I don't know exactly how much my engine speed is increasing, but when the speedometer reads 220, the tachometer is exactly at 4,000 RPM. On good days, the speedometer could reach around 222 km/h, and the tachometer would be just above 4,000 RPM. Measured by GPS, depending on the direction, the values were between 211.9 and 215.4 km/h. But that was a long time ago...

So, with "a little" incline and "a little" tailwind icon_twisted.gif icon_question.gif.

Using the comparative driving profile, you can quite nicely simulate how the apparent maximum speed (Vmax) can shift on "good" days icon_wink.gif.

Okay, Ulf, so the car doesn't have to work too hard for that. I can confirm the speedometer reading of 220 and 4000 RPM, that's achievable. If there's a real hill in the way, it can definitely handle more. It seems like this particular car is well-maintained and some vehicles are actually reaching the specified performance figures.

I just simulated it: for example, a 1% incline and a paltry 10 km/h tailwind (both of which, I think, are hardly noticeable in maximum speed, low-altitude flight!) can push the ASZ G4, even without any additional power , from its registered 205 km/h to around a more realistic 220 km/h.
So, speedometer around 230 -> WOW DUDE icon_exclaim.gif

(Ernst's idea for a driving display is actually a brilliant one, I'm just realizing that again!)

Okay, then the speedometer is probably lying quite a bit, which I'm not going to deny.

Hi,

Interesting idea... I definitely need to, when I have some time, recalculate my A7's low-altitude flight over the Kassel hills icon_wink.gif. It's about a 3...4% downhill slope, I have no idea about the wind, and the speedometer reads 220 at 4600 RPM (I wonder how you manage with your long 6-speed gearboxes).

Best regards,

Jan.

No, measured consecutively in both directions icon_cry.gif.

On the A5 highway, from the Frankfurter Kreuz towards Darmstadt, take the Griesheim exit, go over the bridge, and then re-enter the A5 on the other side, heading back towards the Frankfurter Kreuz. So, I can rule out wind and gradient effects icon_twisted.gif. It wasn't even very cold, I'd say just over 20 degrees.

I usually take this route whenever I want to test the maximum speed of a vehicle.

The acquaintance has an EFF (exhaust flow meter) installed in his ARL-Bora variant, and it registers 4,150 RPM at maximum speed. He uses biodiesel, and he emphasizes this icon_cool.gif.

Well, with approximately 10% more power (across the entire range), according to my calculations, the ASZ-G4 in 6th gear would travel around 214 km/h, which is roughly equivalent to your GPS readings.

-> Could Pi x Daumen actually be a good fit...?

Since I also want to briefly share my opinion, as an ASz ERF driver icon_biggrin.gif.

Unfortunately, I don't have internet access at the moment, but everything will be back to normal soon.

I once drove my ASZ-equipped car downhill near Würzburg, reaching 240 km/h on the speedometer. I was using 205-size tires.
The engine speed was just under 4400 RPM. When I realized it, I immediately took my foot off the accelerator because I had never seen that engine speed in my car before. Anything above 4000 RPM and 225 on the speedometer had always been the limit.

I recently checked how many revolutions the engine speed increases from 5th gear at 4000 RPM when shifting to 6th gear.
After engaging the clutch, the engine was only producing 3400 RPM at approximately 180 km/h.
It seems to me that, in general, the ERF transmission is definitely the superior transmission in the Golf compared to the Passat or Audi with the same engine power. However, the 5th gear is quite short.

Oh, I think you're being way too anxious.

The Ibiza Cupra TDI engine, at its catalogued top speed of 220 km/h (approximately 137 mph), reaches around 4440 rpm in 6th gear – and this is on a flat surface.
Going downhill, it will probably reach 4600 or even more very quickly - and that's at full load new_tomato.gif.

His BPX engine is likely very similar to the ASZ and ARL engines in its core components (block and crankshaft), although I don't have access to the relevant technical documentation.
