Hi,
after I tried to replace the tensioner pulley on my AFN Edit Dieselmartin: It is an ASV yesterday and had to remove the ribbed belt to do so, it whistles when I fully depress the accelerator pedal while driving. It's not noticeable when the vehicle is stationary. The whistling noise (very extreme) comes from the front right and sounds like it's coming from the ventilation system.
Can I adjust anything when replacing the serpentine belt? My A3 manual doesn't mention anything about that.
Regards,
mc882

Do you have air conditioning?
To the best of my knowledge, the climate wheel has more "ribs" than the belt, so you have to be very careful about which rib you place the belt on.
If it's running at an angle, all sorts of noises and damage are possible.
Or did you perhaps change his running direction? That's also not allowed.

I placed it exactly as it was, in the same orientation, even in the same spot! The 'ribs' on the climate control panel were the same, so it wasn't a problem to get it positioned correctly.
Surely, you can't misalign anything when replacing a serpentine belt, right? It's possible that I accidentally rotated the pulley when I put the belt back on. But that shouldn't matter, should it?

Rolls should not be allowed to do anything.
What have you changed?
A new clamping element?
Perhaps the old drive belt is no longer able to withstand the correct tension and is so worn that it's making noise.
Just put a new one on?

I wanted to replace the tensioner pulley because it was making a 'grinding' noise, but I couldn't do it because the dealer had given me the wrong one, so I had to put everything back together.
The 'hissing or whistling' sound is not coming from the crankshaft pulley, it sounds like the noise is coming from the ventilation system on the passenger side.
Please tell me it's not the air conditioning compressor...

I assume you've already checked that.
But in my Golf, I have a whistling sound coming from the passenger side vent when the automatic climate control is set to recirculation mode.
Best regards,
Oliver.

This morning, the car wouldn't start . I had it set to 'auto' normally, and the air conditioning wasn't on because it shuts off below 5°C.
I hope it's not the air conditioning compressor... I'll go to the auto repair shop this afternoon and see what they say.

Hello,
Does the whistling change with the speed? Overly tight belts often cause a whistling sound that gets louder as the speed increases.

The belt automatically tensions, and I have an ASV (81 kW). However, the whistling sound increases with the engine speed and only occurs when I fully depress the accelerator pedal.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
What now??
In your first post, you mentioned an AFN, but now you're talking about an ASV!
If you don't know what kind of engine you have, we can't help you.
Not everything with 110 horsepower is an AFN, AHF, or ASV.
The AFN has a completely different role and significance compared to the ASV.
Please take a look under the hood and see what's going on there.

If I sound a bit annoyed, it's because we're all here "helping" for free, in our spare time. It's understandably frustrating when you realize you're wasting your time due to mistakes made by others.
My tips were specifically for the AFN (Air Filter Number) of this tensioner.

The ASV has something that's "shock absorber-like." Transparency, Teamwork

Of course ASV *g* I've read so much about MKB's on the internet, and it's just confusing.
Mine also has that shock absorber, just like you described .
EDIT: Thank you for your help. I checked everything again by getting under the car, and it turns out that a clamp just behind the air filter was not properly attached, which was causing the whistling noise . Now it's running optimally again without any whistling!
Again, sorry about the incorrect MKB information; I was a bit out of it this morning, and I thought it would be very expensive .
