Hello,

A popular topic in this section is brakes.
The combinations of rotors and pads from different manufacturers are often a topic of discussion.

I had the brakes and pads replaced about 80,000 kilometers ago.
I inadvertently used relatively inexpensive standard products from a free-market workshop chain based in Upper Palatinate, which is active throughout Germany.

I have to say, I always took pride in my car's brakes, which were the best factory-installed brakes available (288mm discs - the last VR6 brake system).

She was and still is very assertive, especially when it comes to city driving! But is it stable?

Indication:
'When I have to brake from 180 km/h to 100 km/h on the highway (due to trucks, elderly drivers swerving, etc.), and I'm not even applying a full brake, I'm already braking from 180 to 160 km/h. Below 160 km/h, a significantly greater amount of pedal force is needed to achieve the same braking effect. At the same time, a noise becomes louder, which I can't quite describe. It sounds like: 'rurururururururu'.' The steering wheel doesn't vibrate, and the vehicle maintains its lane.

Question:
Does this indicate slightly warped rotors? The old (original) rotors and pads made no noise. Shouldn't such large iron discs be able to handle a good amount of weight (G3)? Or am I just being hysterical again, and everyone knows about the effect of increasing pedal pressure?

Thank you, everyone.

Best regards,

Tobias.

Hi,

I've only driven about 100,000 km with this Girling system in my G III (without replacing any parts), but it was by far the best braking system I've ever experienced. I still miss it today... Sounds were completely foreign to this brake, whether it was panic braking from maximum speed icon_eek.gif or a reckless descent down the Großglockner mountain road with the digital use of gas and brake icon_twisted.gif.

From my other cars, I'm familiar with the brake noise that comes from worn discs and/or pads. Whenever new parts were needed, these noises would often appear, sometimes accompanied by a grinding sound. I would attribute this effect to the potentially worn-out replacement parts. I would definitely go back to using original parts for the next replacement.
Gruß
