Heckwischer A6: The Ultimate Guide

I recently used the rear wiper on my A6 with the 5-cylinder engine (AEL) for the first time – I've owned the car for two years already. Now I've noticed that the wiper only runs in intermittent mode and doesn't turn off. I can only switch it off by turning off the ignition!
Is this normal, or is a relay defective?

By the way, this relay is located in an additional relay holder under my rear seat; it might be hidden there for you as well!

Is the lever for the rear wiper properly engaged, or is it perhaps just a button (where the lever springs back after being pressed)?

You can only turn it off by pressing the wiper switch again, but only if the wiper is not currently in its resting position. It's a bit silly, but there's no other way to do it with just one button.

Turning it off is also possible in standby mode, but then it will wipe the data again before shutting down .

If you activate the lever twice in a row, it will only wipe once. The intermittent wiper function will not be activated. If you hold the lever down for a slightly longer time to also pump windshield washer fluid onto the glass, the intermittent wiper function will still not be activated.
The interval mode is only activated when the lever is briefly and simply operated.
