Hello fellow DIY enthusiasts!

I would like to know how you proceed when replacing brake pads.
Do you install the brake pads "as is," meaning without any modification after thoroughly cleaning the brake pad slots, or do you manually prepare them beforehand by filing the edges and lightly sanding the friction surface?
A small amount of copper paste on the mounting lugs is essential to prevent the linings from seizing in the guides.

Regards,
Alex.

Good morning.

I have always installed the flooring without any treatment, i.e., just as it comes out of the box.
Copper paste is a must anyway. However, I've always used it to prevent the brakes from squealing at the end. In the end, I usually just used a bit of brake cleaner. For the first 50 kilometers, I was careful about braking, and that was basically it. This whole process might not be entirely correct, but I've never had any problems with it.

'No, copper paste should not be used. When changing the brake pads on models A4, A6, and A8, it is required to use a ceramic-based grease. Over time, copper paste has repeatedly caused problems with the ABS sensors, especially if any of the paste migrates towards the induction disc.'
I think the same will be true for the A3.

Tiles are usually already beveled from the factory. Simply clean them with alcohol or brake cleaner and install them. It's not recommended to file them down!

You must make sure that the bonding surface of the outer pads on the saddle is clean so that the new pads can adhere properly. If they don't sit correctly, the pads may squeal or make a clicking noise when you first brake.

No, copper paste should not be used. For the A4/A6/A8 models, when changing the brake pads, it is required to use a ceramic-containing grease. Copper paste has repeatedly caused problems with the ABS sensors over time, especially if some of the paste migrates towards the induction disc.

Does this apply to all models? I wasn't actually familiar with that before. But okay, then I'll use ceramic-based paste next time.

Okay, regarding the Audi models from the MJ 2004 onwards, I'm certain that it applies to all of them. Since the ABS system didn't undergo a fundamental change between the B5 and B6 models, I would assume that it also applies to the B5.

At my trusted Audi workshop, ceramic spray is generally used for all vehicles. A bottle of it costs around 4-5 euros, so it's not that expensive.

Hello,

Regarding the ABS sensors, I always use 'Plastilube' when installing brake pads.

Bye.

Max.

To the best of my knowledge, the copper (Cu) ban applies to *all* ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) vehicles - at least at VW.

Because even my old G3 Trekker shouldn't be treated with copper paste, but rather this gray ceramic paste should be used.

Evening!

Then I wonder how much brake paste containing copper (CU) is applied by VW. It takes quite a bit for the substance to reach the sensor. If I remember correctly, my A4 also had copper paste on it when I bought it, and VAG had just performed the service icon_eek.gif. So, can we say that ceramic paste is the best option, whether it's for ABS or not?

I only use chamfering when the discs have already been somewhat broken in. At some point, someone also wrote that copper (Cu) is prohibited for workshops for environmental reasons. Is that true?
