Document problems with airbag sensors, MJ 1998 (Solution)

Only models from the year 1998, with frame numbers in the range of 3BW - 000 001 to 3BW - 999 999.

In some vehicles, defective side airbag sensors can cause a complete failure of the airbag control unit (part number 8L0 959 655). This causes the airbag warning light to stay on constantly.

Solution:
Read error codes from the vehicle's memory using a diagnostic system. The error message appears: "9 errors detected - cannot be deleted - function is unknown or cannot be executed at this time." In this case, the side airbag sensors and the airbag control unit need to be replaced.
