Should you prime a new fuel filter after replacement on an AXR (PD) engine?

Hey mechanics,

The fuel filter needs to be replaced for the first time on my AXR PD engine. Does it need to be bled afterwards, or is it sufficient to just turn the ignition on a few times and let the fuel pump do its job? It runs for a short time whenever you turn on the ignition icon_wink.gif.
The workshops have a small, hand-operated priming pump to fill the filter with fuel, but unfortunately, I don't have one. Therefore, the question is whether it is necessary.
How do PD (plasma display) panels react to fuel shortages? Is there a risk of dry running with the corresponding consequences, or is sufficient lubrication ensured by the diesel residue?

Thank you and best regards.

Eike.

Hi!

In pharmacies, you can find so-called 'bladder syringes' for 2-3€, which have a capacity of 50-200ml. With this, you can conveniently refill the filter with fresh diesel, install it, and then start the engine without any problems. icon_smile.gif

Hi,

The filter has now been replaced. I primed the fuel system by repeatedly turning the ignition on. For verification, I removed the T-piece from the filter again and checked. The filter was full of diesel. It started up without any problems afterwards.

Greetings.

Eike.

"The PD wasn't as bad as the VP, and I did it the way you suggested, and I was surprised at how easily it went."
