'Yes, but fuel injection pumps, or even more so, common rail systems, require enormous drive power... compared to that, a camshaft with a distributor is really just child's play.'
not that it ends up like that again:

Hi Gremlin,
Beautiful photos.
I would have liked to see something similar at VW, where a lot of staff are around my car , and then also at night .
You're absolutely right: In the case of PD (likely referring to a specific dental procedure or condition), significant forces act on the timing belt.
In addition, there are also enormous and sudden increases and decreases in power.

What do you mean by 'VR6'?
The only issue I'm aware of with the VR6 engine is that it can suffer from engine damage if it's pushed backward, as this can cause a plastic guide rail to break, which then leads to the timing chain coming off.
What other problems were there?
It may be true that a chain drive is louder than a timing belt, but it's certainly not louder than a gear drive. We'll see how it is with the new T5...

Do you know how much power the pump consumes?
Best regards,
Uwe

Hi Ingo,
Well, the best timing chain won't help an engine live a long life if the chain tensioner frequently fails.
That's probably how it was with (early?) VR6 engines.
I'm not talking about the current 204-horsepower V6 engines (which are also VR6 engines)!

How about http://www.zeus.uk.com/five.jpg?
Unfortunately, this is for a Rover TDI.

Do you know how much power the pump consumes?
The VP series is specified with a maximum torque of approximately 120 Nm and power outputs ranging from 0.2 kW (no-load) to a maximum of 4 kW.
