As someone who isn't familiar with PD (presumably referring to a specific type of engine or component), I can only suggest the following: Remove the valve cover and take a look. Unusual wear should be noticeable through scratches or other markings. If you're unsure, you can post pictures.

Best regards!

It would be great if you could think of anything else I can check. or related to the data.
The MWB 10 does not indicate an intercooler leak. Also, unfortunately, I don't see any explanation for the soot problem.

What do you think about the camshaft theory?
As far as I know, it's not a known problem with PD engines, so it's rather unlikely.
But checking doesn't take much effort...

The car seems to have the same performance as always; it can almost reach 230 km/h on a flat road.

The most noticeable thing is the layer of soot on the rear of the vehicle (which wasn't there initially after purchasing the vehicle, although you could already see the exhaust in the rearview mirror), and a (what I consider to be a loud) constant hissing sound when boost pressure builds up. I don't have any points of comparison because it's been doing that since I've owned it.

We had actually planned to open the valve cover today, but one of the screws is so awkwardly placed that you have to remove the EGR fitting before you can loosen it, so we postponed that for now.

Regards, R00KIE.

You don't need to remove the AGR (Abgasrückführung) for this. A small, flexible 10mm wrench is sufficient. That's all you need. Don't worry, the screws can't fall out of the valve cover.

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

'MFG' is an abbreviation for 'Mit freundlichen Grüßen,' which means 'Sincerely' or 'Best regards' in English.

Well, even a small leak can make a relatively loud hissing sound.
The LuMa/LD ratio in the MWB fluctuates somewhat even without any errors.
Small leaks that do not significantly alter the ratio (approximately 0.40 - 0.45 in the case of ARL) are not detectable in the log data and are certainly possible in your situation.

Okay, now I understand a little better.
Today, I removed the cylinder head cover and discovered that the camshaft, in the area of cylinders 2 and 3, has sunk into the intake valves.
Unfortunately, I can't say at this point how far the corrosion has progressed, or how much of the actual cam lobe is missing.

What is certain is that the wave doesn't look particularly exciting. icon_twisted.gif
I can't attribute the wear and tear to bad oil or anything else.
I think that the material is not really that great!! icon_evil.gif

The real question is whether the damaged cam lobe is related to the smoke, and is the ARL (Air Leakage Rate) so sensitive to this small amount of wear? Let's say it's only a few hundredths of a millimeter.

Will replacing the wave here at such an expensive cost actually help me?
Are you familiar with such damage in the field of occupational safety and health (Arbeitsrecht)?

Hi everyone,
So, the camshaft isn't to blame for the smoke this time!
The wear is too minimal.
