Hello,
I need your help. My 1997 AFN with 268,000 km is not working properly. Since yesterday, on the highway, it stops accelerating at 150 km/h and vibrates as if it's running on 3 cylinders. When it's cold, it starts vibrating around 2400 rpm. What could it be? What could be the cause? "The boost pressure is consistently present, the mass airflow sensor readings are within the normal range, but occasionally the error message 00550 (injection start adjustment) appears, and the tractor smokes heavily when cold, like an old steam locomotive."
I should probably mention that it was -7 degrees Celsius outside yesterday when I tried to start it.

Has the fuel injection pump, or its settings, been tested by someone who is knowledgeable about it? Also, has the fuel injection start timing been checked?
It sounds to me like it's just a misconfigured ESP.

A diesel filter issue wouldn't typically be noticeable immediately when accelerating from a standstill, would it? I also notice the jerking even without putting any load on the engine when I rev it up.
Regarding the pump: I've installed and configured several pumps before, so why wouldn't I be able to check mine?
Injection start at idle is correct (TDI graph).
It has now run for 8,000 km without any issues, and then suddenly it broke down at -7 degrees Celsius?!?
My guesses: crack in the cylinder head, piston damage, failure of the ESP (electric stability program), hydraulic lifter, or valve problem.

By the way, regarding the diesel filter: Yesterday, I had a V6 TDI with a flashing glow plug indicator and even engine misfires at idle! I wouldn't have thought it myself, but the cause was: the diesel filter was clogged due to poor quality diesel (it had solidified due to extreme cold).

Would you really replace the filter first, to continue watching?

The pre-impeller pump, also the impeller cell pump, is relatively unimportant.
Whether it is running under load or idling at high speed.
It seems to me, as BM already wrote, that a heatwave is the most likely scenario.
What do your fuel lines say?
