Hello everyone,
Yesterday, I accidentally put 55 liters of regular gasoline into my almost empty Galaxy (year 1998, 220,000 km, engine AFN, 81 kW, injection pump VP37) and drove with it. It started to stutter after 15 km, and the engine died after 25 km. Great, I guess it was bound to happen eventually.
A friend who is a mechanic said: "The ESP is broken, the injectors are broken, the pistons are melted, which means a major engine failure."
Okay, what do you think? What's the best way to proceed? How can I get the gasoline out the quickest and easiest way? Should I replace parts (like the ESP or injectors), or should I just wait and see? If the ESP fails later and the timing chain breaks, the engine will be ruined. How can I inspect the pistons?
Sure, here's the translation:
"Thank you in advance."
Richard.

Condolences.
Drain the fuel tank and empty all the fuel lines. Replace the diesel filter! First, I would try to get the fuel mixture as close as possible to the recommended 2-stroke oil / diesel ratio and run the engine without starting, just by cranking it, until all the fuel is gone. Then, remove the injector lines.
The endoscope is used to view the piston.
Then I would start by using the oil mixture, and once it's running, continue to run it with some oil.
If it doesn't start anymore . Gruß, der Teileklaus

"Show your teeth and smile!"
(It's probably due for a major service at 220,000 km anyway!)
While doing that, use an endoscope to take a look inside and inspect the piston.
Disconnect the fuel line at the pump and use an electric pump to siphon gasoline out before the filter.
Then, use 5 liters of diesel to flush the system and install a new filter. Flush the pump with diesel.
Carefully turn the pump and then just hope for the best.
It has worked for me several times before. (Mostly with women! )
Best regards, efistho.

No, it's probably not as bad as it seems (hopefully it's not too bad for you).
I've experienced that before. Empty the tank and fill it with diesel. Then try to fill the lines with diesel. A ratio of 5 parts diesel to 1 part gasoline won't cause any problems.
Then you need to get the gasoline out of the ESP. The easiest way is to disconnect the fuel injection lines. Route the return flow into a container, and feed the supply line as much diesel as possible }.
After adding approximately 300ml of gasoline/diesel to the container, you can reattach the injector lines, bleed the injectors, and try to start the engine. After a while, it should start again (I managed to do this with an AHU engine). The ESP (Electronic Stability Program) can fail because diesel provides better lubrication than gasoline. The injectors themselves aren't really affected if they get a bit of gasoline. The pistons should also be able to handle it, otherwise you wouldn't be able to run a diesel engine at idle.
Please correct me if you have better methods or if I am wrong.
Good luck!

I believe that neither the ESP (Electronic Stability Program), the injectors, nor the pistons were damaged.
In a CR situation, things would have looked different.
Follow the instructions above and restart the car.

Rischtisch , a friend's Kangoo with a CR engine survived, even though he drove it until the very last moment. That was probably like winning the lottery. Normally, something like that would cause problems with modern engines. 3B5 AJM

I know of a case where an HDi engine also survived that. It even ran on regular gasoline until it was finally shut down. It ran very roughly and unevenly, but it wouldn't start anymore after that.
After draining the fluid and manually pumping it up (using a hand pump, like a bicycle pump, in the engine compartment), it started running again.
