hello, has anyone ever experienced the oil filter flange breaking off on their Audi/VW? what were the causes? I heard something about a specific pressure valve that wasn't working correctly, which then led to the damage! (info about Audi, but they are trying to rip me off!) icon_cry.gif

Okay, so the car is an A6 2.5 TDI with a Tiptronic transmission, the engine code is AFB, and the year of manufacture is 1999.

Hello,

In the AFB engine, the oil filter is simply a cartridge that sits vertically in a...
A very robust bracket is screwed in (similar to the AHF or AJM models). It is very unlikely that anything will break or tear off here, as the cover is made of plastic, while the bracket is a die-cast aluminum part.
D.
I am not familiar with the pressure valve in question. This would be the emergency valve, which opens a bypass in case of a defective filter. This means that it is normally closed (in its resting position) during normal operation. Since I don't assume you drove for a very long time with an extremely dirty oil filter, we can probably rule this out as the cause.

Do you happen to know where the damage is located?

hello,
'I can briefly explain how this happened. In December 2000, I had the oil changed. A month later, I accidentally noticed a small oil leak due to oil stains in my garage. Upon closer inspection (which I probably shouldn't have done), I discovered that the underside of my car, up to the rear axle, was covered in oil. The workshop inspection the next day revealed that my oil filter flange had apparently broken off! When I asked how something like that could break off, the mechanic just shrugged his shoulders. I accused the workshop of making a mistake during the oil change and refused to pay for the damage. After a long discussion, my car was repaired, and I was able to pick it up two days later, cleaned and repaired. When I asked if everything was okay, the mechanic replied, 'Yes.' I didn't receive an invoice and was allowed to take my car. Four to five weeks later, I received the invoice and was suddenly told that I had to pay 50% of the cost myself! My lawyer has been handling the case for a while now, but you wouldn't believe the arguments I've had to hear from Audi! That's all for now; I need to take my calming pills, or I might go crazy!'I received this news, including the amendment, from a friend who works on cars at Audi. Unfortunately, I don't have much technical knowledge, but if I have it in writing in front of me, I'll post it again with more detail!

best regards

hello everyone,

The cause can be either mechanical (force) or a pressure valve that regulates the pressure within the bucket linkage housing. If it's not working properly, something has to give way. I was told that there's a procedure that involves installing a modified oil filter housing. This seems to be the case for me, because the part I have installed in this location now is not the same one that was there before!

If you have more information, please send it to [email protected].

Best regards,

hello,

I now know the official reason why my oil filter flange failed.

Defective leaf spring valve in the oil filter module (oil filter flange unit).

part number: modified oil filter module.
As in my case, the goodwill offered so far has only been 50%, even though the mileage is 85,000 km.

best regards
