Hello!

The ADAC was unable to read the error codes from my car's computer because they couldn't establish a connection.
I've now borrowed a diagnostic cable from a friend to try it out myself again. Using the latest VCDS-Lite and VAG-COM 303.1, I was able to successfully read the fault memory on a friend's 1994 Golf 3 ABD.

"However, when I try to connect to the MSG or WFS on my Golf 3 (built in 1995, chassis code 1Z), I always get the error message "No Response from Controller" (using the same hardware and software). I've already tried disconnecting the radio and disconnecting/reconnecting the battery, but it hasn't helped."

I hope someone can give me some advice on where the error might be.

You can simply ask the manufacturer of your friend's diagnostic cable. They probably have a great support forum like this one, and you'll get help quickly.

Measuring connections:
Diagnostic socket - WFS.
WFS - MSG

Since you're not coming to the WFS anymore: Start with that.

Above the fuse box, there is a distribution panel with approximately seven sockets. This is where the individual K-line (diagnostic cables) of the control units are plugged in (ABS, WFS, diagnostic connector, airbag, etc.).

"I would start by disconnecting everything except the diagnostic connector and the WFS (Wiring Function System). Then, I would measure the connections to both and check for short circuits to ground and to 12V."

If everything else works out, the primary issues remaining will likely be related to the WFS (likely referring to a specific system or component) or the power supply to the WFS/diagnostic connector.

By the way, maybe start looking for the problem using the 12V from the diagnostic socket. It would be unfortunate if someone needed a spare fuse icon_wink.gif.

Regards,
Guste.
