I own a Golf 4 TDI with 110 horsepower, manufactured in November 1998.
Currently, the vehicle complies with Euro 2 standards. Is there a way to upgrade it to Euro 3/D3 standards?

It would be nice if you could help me.

Best regards, Tim.

Hello Tim,

Unfortunately, I am not aware of any simple way to retrofit it.
You could, at most, implant a complete ASV motor into your car.

Since, starting in 2004, the tax for diesel passenger cars with Euro 2 standards is 16.05 EUR per 100cm 3 , and for Euro 3 standards it is 15.44 EUR per 100cm 3 , it's probably not worth considering a conversion.

...I recently found a small advertisement from VW in my car... I believe they were offering a catalytic converter retrofit for TDIs to achieve a better emissions class... I didn't pay much attention to it at the time, so I can't recall the details exactly icon_confused.gif.

What's the purpose of a catalytic converter in a diesel engine?

Best regards, WarLord.

Yes. Its job is to burn the NOx content in the exhaust gases, right?

Hi,

It is unlikely that nitrogen oxides will be "burned" by an oxidation catalyst (Oxi-KAT).
As the name suggests, they are already "oxidized," and that's simply all that an oxidation catalyst can do.

Best regards, Rainer.

Okay, then I'll oxidize too.

@ kapselchrissi!

In my opinion, a conversion from EURO 1 to EURO 2 was offered.

Best regards, D.

Hi,

D. wrote:

"That was a scam for the AAZ and the 1Z engines, intended for converting from Euro 1 to Euro 2 standards. However, with the 1Z engine, it's actually fraud, because all 1Z engines can be remapped to Euro 2 without any modifications."
"We discussed this a long time ago - if you're interested, use the search function."

I'm not aware of any conversions from EU2 to EU3, as (as Rainer already mentioned) the price difference isn't significant enough to make a decisive cost advantage (at least not with the 1.9L engine).

Sure, I have a 1Z with Euro 2 emissions (I'm not sure, maybe someone will be interested, but I wasn't aware that the 1Z also came with Euro 1 emissions).

Best regards, WarLord.
