Hello!
Here are the brake images.
As mentioned before, the brakes have now been through three winters.
Since then, the Golf 4 has been driven approximately 35,000 km, while the Golf 2 has been driven around 15,000 km.
Both cars are always parked outdoors and have been used continuously throughout the winter.
I haven't embellished anything, and I haven't made any changes to the photos other than adjusting the image size.

Here are the pictures of the TRW brakes from the Sharan. They've only been used for two winters. The rear brakes were only available unpainted back then, which is visible. However, the braking surface is completely rust-free. There are no problems with the brakes. Everything is fine.
The car is usually only lightly loaded, with two occupants, and mostly used for short trips. However, it's used at least twice a year for vacation trips to the Baltic Sea, which involves approximately 1000 km of highway driving each time. On these trips, it's fully loaded with three people and a bike rack carrying three bikes. We also occasionally take short vacations in it, in which case it's moderately loaded without the bikes. It will never be used to tow a trailer.

... I'll definitely keep TRW in mind for the next set of windshields!

Great! If the braking performance is also satisfactory, then this seems to be a perfectly balanced combination of brake pads and rotors. You don't see brake rotors that look this good very often anymore.

Hi, for example, in the Passat 3C, TRW brake pads are sometimes installed as standard equipment.
It's also a matter of faith.
I think that, ultimately, the driving style is the main factor that determines how much rust forms on the brake pads.

Let's agree that the driving profile has a significant impact. Of course, the built-in brakes will rust if they are not used. However, the corrosion behavior is not the same for all brake brands.
For example, the brakes that were originally installed in the Passat were not removed because they were worn out, but because they were rusted. They weren't older either. And back then, the car was driven with the same driving profile as it is now.
@Hatdriver
The biting point is also correct. The only downside is unfortunately the price. TRW brakes are not the cheapest. They are roughly at the same level as their large, blue competitor. Quality doesn't come for free.
