Hello,
I replaced my front shocks/struts some time ago. With the hot, dry weather we've been having in recent weeks, the landing gear on the aircraft has been making a terrible squealing noise every time it retracts.
In contrast, there was no noise on the damper test stand (so the noise is not due to vertical movement), and according to the ADAC representative, the dampers were very good (83% and 85%).
At VW, they told me that the problem was likely with the stabilizer bar, which would need to be replaced (for a few hundred euros).
Could it be due to the new dome bearings? The noise disappears when it's wet!
Therefore, I would like to try lubricating the rubber bushings on the shock absorbers to prevent the rubber from directly rubbing against the metal. What can I safely use for this? I was thinking about Caramba...
Best regards,
Stefan.

'Shortly after I took possession of my Passat 3BG and just four weeks after the warranty expired in the spring, it started squeaking. After some searching, I found that the rubber bushings on the stabilizer bar were the culprits! I used a syringe to apply some lubricant, and it's been quiet ever since! Even a three-week trip to Croatia in extreme temperatures, with a trailer attached, hasn't changed anything.'
'My Passat 35i 1z also experienced a similar issue once. In my case, it was due to the axial roller bearings in the shock absorber struts!'

If the rubber bushings have become detached from the stabilizer bar – meaning they've moved inward, towards the bar itself, and have some play – does that affect the vehicle's handling? Should they be replaced in that case? I didn't check it myself, but that's what the VW dealer said.
And regarding lubrication: Is regular motor oil, or products like Caramba, harmful to rubber? Various types of plastics exhibit dissolution phenomena when they come into contact with liquid hydrocarbons.

The rubber pieces on the stabilizer should be fitted so tightly that there shouldn't be any significant play. Of course, there are oils that can dissolve rubber, but I don't remember what I used.
