Oil Change: How to Check & Understand.

Hi, is there a way for me to find out if the dealer actually performed the oil change they promised?

The service interval has been reset and now displays 29,000 km or 700 days until the next service.

Yes, it is possible, and it can be done through an oil analysis. You don't know how long the old oil has been in the engine, or what condition it's in. As is well known, the fresh oil is immediately mixed with the remaining oil, so it becomes black right away.

If you lack trust in the dealer, I would change the oil myself... it's possible that he might have put some cheap, low-quality oil in.

Right, only an oil analysis would provide any information. However, I don't think it's really worthwhile, as it would cost at least 50% of the price of an oil change.
Therefore, my advice is: if there is any doubt, switch.

Just take a look at the oil filter or the oil filter housing. Or the drain plug. Can you see any oil residue anywhere? Any oil splatters? Or, conversely, does it look like someone might have cleaned something there recently?

Aside from the fact that an oil change costs a dealer almost nothing... unless there's already a really bad atmosphere, why would a dealer try to rip you off over a small amount?

Get the oil filter from the exact same dealer and compare the manufacturers (Mann, Mahle, Knecht, Bosch, etc.).
It would be very unlikely that he would receive either of the items from his supplier.

Because he's a greedy jerk? I know of a case where, in the past, the old oil filter would be meticulously polished with rags and rust remover to make it look like it had been replaced. This was a dealer with an official brand dealership (!).
