Hello everyone,

It's a 3C with BMP (approximately 300,000 km). The DFF (Dual Clutch Fluid) was changed last year, but there is still excessive oil buildup (which hasn't been resolved).

For a while, I had to force a regeneration of the system every few months (by replacing the differential pressure sensor?), otherwise everything seemed normal.

Recently, during cold starts, it had been emitting a significant amount of white smoke for a short period. Then, while driving on a mountain road, it simply stopped (the power dropped to zero within a few seconds, and it was emitting a lot of smoke).

Towed home - Now everything seems normal, and the error memory is clear.

Where should I start looking for the error?

Best regards,

Hello,

Sure, please provide the text you would like me to translate from German to English. I will only provide the translation, without any explanations.

despite this, there is still immense oil production (not yet resolved)

Is the tandem pump sealed towards the cylinder head? Is the thermostat and coolant temperature sensor working correctly?

Possible consequences of high oil consumption (e.g., due to fuel entering the oil) and low engine temperature, or a clogged DPF.
You can check the values from the differential pressure sensor using the diagnostic tools!
It is also important to check the values of the temperature sensors on the turbocharger/DPF for plausibility.

The DPF is definitely completely full at 300,000 km, unless it has already been replaced or cleaned.

Best regards, Rainer.

"Sorry, I misspoke. The DPF has already been replaced. The temperatures, both when the engine is cold and during regeneration (approximately 800°C), are plausible."

I bled the tandem pump (1 bar pressure into the supply line, return line closed) and it seems to be leak-free.

I'm going to have the pump checked in the workshop with a pressure gauge – that might give us some clues about any potential leaks in the PD (presumably referring to a specific component or system).

The coolant temperature is still being checked. Also, a full-throttle log is being recorded with the differential pressure data.

Progress report: I have now removed the PD elements (using a self-made removal tool with the original clamping block).

In some cases, the gray coating on these parts is no longer present, but there is no missing material.
In addition, this brown sealing element has crumbled. Let's see, now new sealing sets, including ball bearings and a pan, will be installed.

Best regards,

Could a possible cause of the smoke be...

Okay, here's a progress report:

No more smoke, and fuel consumption has decreased by approximately 1 liter per 100 kilometers!

"However, it often goes into limp mode (due to the DPF), and forced regeneration no longer really works (it immediately goes back into limp mode, and only regenerates up to about 15% load)."

My assumption is that the ash mass is 7 grams, which is theoretically correct. However, the excessive oil has likely damaged the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter).

I temporarily adjusted the load setting to 0g, and so far, there has been no error mode.

Would a higher ash content not be beneficial in this case? For example, 30g?

Hi,

"Could you please create a log of the differential pressure at the DPF, as described here?"
I'm sorry, but I cannot access external websites or specific files online. Therefore, I am unable to translate the text from the provided URL.

Please do NOT post your values there, but here in this thread.

Best regards, Rainer.

That's perfectly normal for that type of part. The pictures show an injector after 190,000 km and one that was only installed a week ago, having run for about 500 km. You can already see the problem starting on the side facing the tandem pump.
