It only gets difficult when there's absolutely nothing left.

I don't think so .

The part number you mentioned has been discontinued because it has been improved, and the index change has been added to the end of the new part number.
The new part is now called 059 103 464 B.

Is this available at Audi for €87?
but also in the accessories.

Interestingly, the parts catalog for the KGE (coolant expansion tank) of the V6 2.5 TDi engines with codes AFB/AKN lists part number 046198475B as the correct part.

Why can't Audi do that?

Either you were at a VW service center that also offers Audi service, and they may not be able to access the TR-Shop easily, or the employee wasn't interested in conducting a thorough search.

It's not uncommon, actually. At my local store, only one employee takes the time and has the knowledge about the system.

However, in the parts catalog, for discontinued parts with a newer revision, there will definitely be a reference to the changed part number, so he should have seen that.

Perhaps a window will pop up, referring to possible trade-in bonuses and new car sales...

These are two different things. Your part number describes the pressure relief membrane, which only allows blow-by gases to pass through to the cyclone filter when there is a slight overpressure.
It is located on the side, attached to the oil filter housing.
Furthermore, these spare part prices are outrageously expensive again, so I'm only buying everything from salvage yards now. 90 euros for a piece of plastic!? They must have taken Swatch as their example.
