Hello,

Okay, I'll also create a diagram of the control unit icon_biggrin.gif when I have the vehicle back in my possession.

Hello everyone,

The problem has been solved, and in the end, it wasn't really a problem at all.

I brought the vehicle back today to get a diagnostic scan. I then adjusted the values again. I also changed the minimum and maximum values. And sure enough, changing the minimum values (IDE00512 and IDE00827) also changes the display. As initially suspected, the display shows the minimum values until the next service. It calculates these values based on IDE00510 and IDE00512, or IDE00511 and IDE00827.

I can only explain that it previously showed 30,000 km and 730 days by assuming that the values were incorrectly set by VW during a service appointment. I've learned something again: don't trust the authorized dealer icon_razz.gif.

Thank you again for all your help.

Greetings.

Hi,
In my opinion, you've messed with the values again.
In its delivery condition, the Golf 7 has 730 days until the first time-based inspection, and then 365 days.
For a flexible service, the maximum mileage is 30,000 km.
The authorized workshop only performs a reset after the specified function has been executed.
Depending on the mileage and the work performed, different channels need to be addressed. That's why I specifically asked for a diagnostic report (STG report).
In the simplest case, when resetting the service interval after an inspection with an oil change, VCDS actually only modifies channels 342, 510, and 511. The reset is triggered by channel 342, based on values provided by two other channels.
Channel 512 displays the minimum required distance between inspections, which is 15,000 km. Channel 827 displays the minimum time between inspections, which is 365 days. Neither of these values can be adjusted.

I would also be interested.
I would particularly like to know the values for 517 (oil level) and 518 (thermal load). These two parameters ultimately determine whether the oil should be changed closer to the minimum or maximum interval.

If values 517 and 518 are not reset, then only the minimum values would directly affect the display. This would result in the exact error you are seeing. However, value 342 should have reset 517 and 518, so I can't fully understand why this is happening.

Nevertheless, the image would be interesting.

I am aware of everything and it is all correct. I only changed the minimum values temporarily for testing purposes and then set them back to their original values.

"The oil level and thermal load indicators have been reset. It is correct that these two values ultimately represent the effective mileage of the oil. However, I cannot say whether they affect the displayed value in the infotainment system. To determine this, I would need to check the vehicle again after it has been driven for a few more kilometers, so that these values become more significant. But even if both values are included in the calculation of the displayed value, the minimum value will still remain until the next oil change. Ignoring the time factor, an oil change is not necessary until after 15,000 kilometers of driving. After that, the values from the oil level and thermal load indicators will become relevant."
In VCDS, there is no way to view the source code within the engine control unit, or is there? icon_biggrin.gif That would clarify a lot.

I've attached a Screenshot of the engine control unit data. Don't be alarmed, she had the vehicle at the workshop on Monday because of a seal on the air conditioning compressor. They also reset everything again using a different diagnostic tool, but the result was the same. The values for soot intake and thermal load were already okay when I reset it directly after the oil change (see the log file in the first post).

Finally, there's always the possibility that she was simply mistaken, and the display never actually showed 30,000 km and 730 days for the oil change. Perhaps she confused it with the first inspection. Who knows?

The WIV values seem plausible to me. However, I can't explain the display showing 365/15000 with these values. On the other hand, the car hasn't driven many kilometers since the reset, so it doesn't have much "experience" to determine whether it should be based on the minimum or maximum value. I'm not sure if that explains it.

I'm going to try to remember to check the diagnostic interface and look at the menu on my Golf 7 in the next few days. I think the service reset was roughly three months/5,000 km ago, if I recall correctly.

PS: However, I am surprised by the values of 3349 and 5931, as I expected 15,000 km icon_wink.gif instead.

Regards,
Guste.

Hi,
I also see the entries for 3349 and 5931 on my Golf 7. According to the service plan, those values would be acceptable for me as limit values.
For inspections that are truly dependent on mileage and those that are time-based, a current value should be displayed here.
The filter should be replaced after 60,000 km, not after the inspection plus 30,000 km. The brake fluid should be replaced after 2 years, not after the inspection plus 1 year.

Hello,

Okay, I'll take another look at the car after it's been driven for a few more kilometers. With the current mileage since the reset, it's not yet possible to make a definitive assessment.

The fixed values of 30,000 km and 365 days are already acceptable. The fixed values only indicate when an inspection is due. It's as if the oil change has been separated from the inspection. In my opinion, it's a money-making scheme by VW to get people to visit the workshop more often. During the inspection, according to the maintenance schedule, the vehicle is checked, doors are lubricated, etc., which used to be included in the regular service. However, there is no oil change included; that is done separately based on the oil change service indicator.
It has nothing to do with filter changes or brake fluid. The fuel filter needs to be replaced every 90,000 km, the air filter every 90,000 km or 6 years, and the pollen filter every 60,000 km or 2 years.

The terminology used in the adjustment channels is also very confusing. Even in the WIV channels, the term "inspection" is used, although it should actually refer to "service" or "oil change."

WIV/SIA = Oil change.
FIX=Inspection.

Hello everyone,

Okay, there's an update. Yesterday, I received information that the display is now suddenly showing the correct values. It's now counting down from 30,000 km and 730 days. Nothing further has been done to the vehicle since I took the Screenshot of the control unit. It has been driven approximately 800 km since then. Apparently, the control unit needs a considerable amount of time/distance to adapt to new values. It's strange that it takes so long. But, well, there's probably nothing we can do about it, and now everything is back to normal, and the display is showing the correct values.

Greetings.

You're welcome, it's nothing. Maybe someone else will have the same problem someday and this will save them a lot of work.
