It is a transmission with automatic gear selection (ZF) and adaptive transmission control (AGS).

The Adaptive Gear System (AGS) calculates the optimal gear selection for vehicles with automatic transmissions, taking into account a wide range of factors.
It takes into account the individual driving style and the specific driving situation. The AGS recognizes the individual driving style based on the position and movement of the accelerator pedal, the deceleration during braking, and the lateral acceleration when cornering.
Due to different switching characteristics:
- from comfort to performance-oriented.
The AGS selects an appropriate setting. To take driving conditions into account, the AGS registers curves, inclines, and downhill sections.
When driving through fast curves, for example, it doesn't upshift. On inclines, it only shifts to a higher gear at higher RPMs in order to better utilize the power reserves.
On flat roads, the AGS disengages when the vehicle accelerates and the driver applies the brakes.

The control system will enter basic mode if the power supply is interrupted for an extended period.
What doesn't really make sense in everyday operation.

Here's how it's done:

- Engage the handbrake.
- Turn the ignition on, but the engine won't start!
- Press the foot brake and shift the gear selector to "D" (Drive).
- Release the foot brake.
- Now press the accelerator pedal all the way down, including using the kickdown function; that's important.
- maintain this position for more than one minute.
- then skip it and turn off the ignition.

After the automatic transmission overhaul, it was shifting harshly when going into second gear.
It's gone now.

To be honest, I think that instead of the steps mentioned above, you might as well just pick your nose – the chances of success are likely to be the same.

In one of the measurement blocks from the automatic control unit (012,2, Dynamic Index), you can see how the driving dynamics program is performing; this could reveal whether the procedure has any effect or not.
