TDI Cold Start Issues: AEL R5 Fine Tuning

Hi everyone,

"Because the engine was showing a timing value of 115 degrees BTDC on VCDS TDIgraph (too early), we adjusted the pump a bit later (VCDS values of approximately 55, requesting 1.9 degrees BTDC versus the actual 1.8-4). Now, the engine is sputtering during cold starts before it starts. Black smoke is now coming from the exhaust again, like before."

Hello.

The start of injection is determined by the needle lift sensor in the central injector. If this sensor is heavily worn and the opening pressure is too low, the start of injection timing may be correct for that cylinder, but not necessarily for the remaining 4 cylinders.

Fiddling with symptoms is not enough; everything needs to function properly.

VCDS doesn't show any engine or other error codes. How else can I determine if the injector nozzle is faulty? If I use a diagnostic tool, what values should I expect? Or would it be better to do something else?

The target values are even printed on the nozzles, and anyone who can check and adjust them knows that.
