Hello,

Attempting to replace the brake pads on a MAN TGE 2026. Unfortunately, the following error message appears: "Unknown error, cannot start."

Why?

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

"LG" can be translated as "Best regards" or "Sincerely". It is a common abbreviation for "Liebe Grüße", which means "Warm greetings" in English.

Hello,

Your vehicle uses SFD+SFD2, see:
https://shop.dieselschrauber.org/en/sfd-checker.php

I'm looking into what can be done.

Basis:
Quote:

Enabling the Vehicle Diagnostics Protection (SFD).

While we are working on automating the release process, VCDS already supports the release and lock-out procedure using offline release tokens.

The following steps are recommended when working on SFD-protected vehicles:

1. Determine which control units you need to work with, for example:
· Brake electronics for work on the parking brake.
· Information electronics for service reset.
2. Check if the diagnostic firewall was disabled when the hood was opened. This can be done by connecting to the "Diagnostic Interface for Databus / Gateway" (address 19) and displaying the extended diagnostic filter values. Results like the following confirm that you do NOT need to unlock address 19 before making changes in other control units:
· IDE13754-MAS16867 Diagnostic filter: Deactivation reason status → Hood open.
· IDE13754-MAS16875 Diagnostic filter: Status filter status → Filter is not active.
In this case, you can skip steps 3 and 4. The diagnostic firewall is already disabled.
3. If the status is "Filter active," you must request a challenge/token for the "Diagnostic Interface for Databus / Gateway" (address 19) and all additional SFD-protected ECUs that you need to work with. The results would look like this:
· IDE13754-IDE04447 Diagnostic filter: Status-Function status → Function active: SFD protected.
· IDE13754-MAS16875 Diagnostic filter: Status filter status → Filter active.
In this case, you need to follow steps 3 and 4. The diagnostic firewall is enabled.
4. Unlock (SFD) the "Diagnostic Interface for Databus / Gateway" (address 19) and check whether the following value displays a number of minutes that is not zero.
· MAS18157-MAS18164: SFD-enabled status duration for the vehicle diagnostic system to be protected → 89 minutes (this counts down to zero; after that, SFD is automatically re-locked).
5. Disable the diagnostic filter in the "Diagnostic Interface for Databus / Gateway" (address 19) – typically via the adaptation channel IDE16611: temporarily change the "active" setting to "inactive" – and check the following measurement value:
· IDE13754-MAS16866 Diagnostic filter: Status-distance → 20 km (this counts down from 20 km to zero; after that, the filter is automatically re-enabled).
6. Unlock (SFD) all additional SFD-protected control units on which you want to work.

Best regards, Rainer.

VCDS needs to be updated to the latest beta version (it can be installed alongside the current version).

SFD (Vehicle Diagnostic Protection) registration, see:
https://community.dieselschrauber.org/en/viewtopic.php?t=31009&start=16

I'll see what I can do as long as Beta and someone else aren't that proficient in English.

Quote:

1. Access control unit 19 → Perform SFD unlocking → Adaptation:
Set "IDE16611-ENG331831-Diagnosefilter: temporäre Deaktivierung – Diagnostic_filter_temporary_deactivation" to "deactivate".

2. Access control unit 03 → Perform SFD unlocking → Basic settings:
Execute "IDE03331 – Belagwechselmodus starten".

3. Perform the mechanical work.

4. Afterwards, access control unit 03 → Basic settings:
Execute "IDE03330 – Belagwechselmodus beenden".

5. The system may need to be calibrated. Afterwards, basic settings:
Execute "IDE05335-ENG114972 – Funktionsprüfung elektromechanische Feststellbremse – Routine Control Option".

Okay, for using SFD with VCDS, for you, here are the following steps. Of course, these steps are not always necessary, but they are to set everything up:

- Is the HEX-V2 or HEX-NET system registered with Ross-Tech? If not, please refer to the enclosed instructions for system setup.
- Please provide me with an email address that I can use to register you on the English Ross-Tech forum. I also need the short serial number on the VCDS interface sticker (H1... HN...) and the long serial number from the "About..." screen in VCDS.
- Select one of your employees who will be responsible for the SFD tasks in the future. Please note that all SFD tasks are tied to a specific person, so choose carefully. Ideally, the diagnostic interface should be registered to that person. Then, please email me their identification details (passport or ID).
- https://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/download/beta/current.php install, the download link is at the bottom of the page.

General background information can be found at: https://community.dieselschrauber.org/en/viewtopic.php?p=259809#259809. The procedure will become even more user-friendly/simpler.

Best regards, Rainer.
