Hello,
Please pay attention to the fact that during the initial start-up phase (which unfortunately takes a very long time), the engine speed should not exceed 1500 rpm at the beginning, and later not exceed 2000 rpm... otherwise, you don't need expensive oil .
I must emphasize this! My car (with 160,000 km) runs on full synthetic oil and starts without any problems, even in extremely cold temperatures. I try to keep the RPMs below 2000 for the first few kilometers and always look for a truck to follow, staying about 5-6 km behind. Only then do I exceed 2000 RPM. Don't laugh, but I've been doing this with my engines since I was 16.
The driver's door is causing me much more trouble; it simply refuses to open when the temperature drops to around -5 degrees Celsius.
Greetings from Landsberg.
Jürgen.

@Jotes
Wow, look at that, a Landsberger!
I live in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), but due to insurance regulations, my Eicher tractor still has license plates from Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen).
Your doors aren't opening - mine are doing the exact opposite: they no longer close properly in cold temperatures. But after all attempts to fix them with various lubricants, both installed and removed, only worked for about a month, I've just accepted it. My wife, on the other hand, doesn't really like it when it's her door that's affected, especially when the temperature causes it.
Best regards,
Dominique.

Hello.
I'd like to join in on this pleasant discussion.
I am very happy with my AGR engine.
This winter, I experienced the ultimate cold start when I was at my mountain hut.
and it was -21 degrees Celsius in the early morning. He had been glowing for a long time, about 10 seconds.
I then let it preheat again, gave it a little nudge, and it started up.
It then had the highest RPM increase I've ever experienced with it.
Approximately 1050 RPM, and when you accelerated, it only accelerated very slowly.
My secret is a low-voltage 115 Ah battery that was previously installed in an electric sailing yacht. A friend who works in a boatyard got it for me.
Free. Use SLX 0W-30. For both summer and winter.
I've had diesel filters installed in the car ever since I've owned it, which is for the past 95,000 kilometers.
When I think back to my early days with a Mercedes W124...
Well, it eventually started, but it only had about 50 horsepower instead of the original 75, if it even had that much.

@ Suppi
Is 0W-30 actually not approved for use with the EGR system, or what?!
I'm writing this now just so that not everyone goes ahead and does the same thing without knowing what they're doing.
If you're good at it, then it's fine.
But what does it actually say, according to the VAG documents?

I also use 0W30 Longlife II oil in my A4 AFN.
I have no idea if it's approved. What could possibly break?
He doesn't need any oil because of that!
It starts up even in any temperature, although I don't know about temperatures below -20 degrees Celsius, but it works fine up to that point.
Only the battery is very weak at these temperatures, which means the starter motor doesn't work as well.

Using long-life motor oil in engines not designed for it is probably not ideal.
I'm too tired now... Maybe try searching for something related to this topic using the search function. We've discussed the reasoning behind it before, and it seemed plausible to me.
Best regards, Rainer.

@Dieselmartin: Yes, it's already released. In this case, it exceeds the minimum requirements. I'm very satisfied.
@ Steffarn : I would really advise you to use that with caution.
Longlife oil places completely different demands on the engine.
Furthermore, it's thinner than the usual 0W-30 oil, even though it also has "0W-30" printed on the label.
The metal surfaces are specially treated to make them long-lasting.
I got this information from a Castrol employee.

After 180,000 km and 9 years, my 1Z still starts perfectly.
Only below -15°C do you really notice that it's colder (except that it's extremely cold in the car at the beginning ).
Also, also Liqui Moly 5W40 oil and a larger Varta battery (88Ah) as well.
