Hello, I recently got VAG-COM, and I have a Golf IV ALH with 90 horsepower.
Did this error occur?
In the A4 car, VDO V18 instrument cluster.
Coding 05142
Shop ID: WSC 46639
1 fault found.
01039 Coolant Temperature Sensor G2
30-10: Open or short circuit to B+. Intermittent.
What does that tell me?
Thank you. Best regards, Bernd. Golf IV - ALH - Erstzulassung 9/99 |

The cable/connector to the coolant temperature sensor is broken (or, of course, the temperature sensor itself).
The error occurs sporadically (intermittently).

hello,
Okay, let me just say this.
it's the temperature sensor, or the dual-temperature sensor itself.
apparently, there were quality issues with these.
There were definitely about 10% failure rates with the Lupo 3Ls.
The original one lasted almost exactly 2 years and showed the same error.

'My Passat has the exact same problem. It's going to the workshop now, and hopefully, it will get a new one (I still have warranty, so that's covered). Our company's Golf also had this issue; the display would also always show a '-' and disconnect (just like my Passat).' The component that supplies fuel to the engine is fine.
Best regards, WarLord. |

Well, if that part is broken, shouldn't my water temperature gauge also be acting up? But it's working normally. It slowly rises up to 90 degrees and then stays there. VAG om also indicates good values for the water temperature.
What should I do? I think I'll just delete the error and see what happens... or what?
Best regards,

hi,
It's probably just brief interruptions.
You can especially see this with the Lupo 3L, as the undertemperature indicator (the blue light that illuminates when the temperature is below 14°C) only flashes briefly and then turns off.

Um, hello, I just wanted to confirm that I agree with your opinion. I probably should have also mentioned that I've already located the problem thanks to the Passat 3B forum, and I've now asked the workshop to replace the faulty part.
Best regards, WarLord. |

Um, hello, ...
I accidentally clicked on 'quote' instead of 'edit' because I actually wanted to edit something.

Oh, I see.
@Marzocchi
Okay, so I had to implement some logging for different operating states. In my case, the sensor sometimes fails, and then it displays a water temperature of 30 degrees Celsius. That would likely happen to me as well, even with a cold engine.
