How can I control that?

Is there an ABE number on the vehicle registration document or something similar?

No, it's only listed in the letter which ABE corresponds to your vehicle. You just have to find one that has an A3 with Ambition-FW, then compare and it will be fine. icon_smile.gif

...or order the complete approval document (ABE) from the KBA (German Federal Motor Transport Authority) ... be careful, it's extremely expensive!

Hello everyone!

Okay, the Ambition suspension is installed icon_biggrin.gif.
Besides the springs and shock absorbers, I also replaced the control arm bushings (rubber-to-metal bushings), the sway bar links, and the wheel bearings.
The car drives like new again icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif. It is now once again a "precision driving machine" icon_wink.gif.

My measurement of the elevation resulted in the following findings:

VA 11mm deeper.
HA, 1mm deeper.

This is exactly what I was looking for, as I didn't really want to lower the tone, but rather achieve a slightly tighter overall sound.

The rubber-metal bushings in the control arms and the stabilizer bar were completely worn out. However, even after almost 160,000 km, the shock absorbers were still sealed and not that bad in terms of their performance icon_smile.gif.
The improvements in ride comfort, especially on rough roads, are also noticeable in terms of noise reduction.

In short: My conclusion after one day: I am completely satisfied!

Regards,
Alex.

Great, I'm glad it worked out. Hopefully, the new suspension will last for a good long time now... icon_smile.gif

Another question on the topic:
Are the feathers still settling a bit?

I'm asking this question because I often see values between 15 and 20mm of lowering mentioned in connection with the Ambition-FW. In my case, I was fortunately only able to measure 11mm or 1mm.

Alex.

Normally, no. So, I lowered the car, drove about 50-100 km, and the springs were already fully compressed. They didn't settle any further after that.
I often wonder how and where people who constantly measure lunar values actually take those measurements.

... so factory-new pens can sometimes settle a few millimeters (really not much!).
Used or stressed springs no longer possess this property.

... so brand new pens.

Is it brand new? Installed directly from the annealing furnace? icon_wink.gif But you're right, it applies in the automotive sector and is less than 1mm thick, so no one will see it or it's immeasurable.

Having been generally satisfied with the suspension modifications, I have now taken care of the legal aspects (ABE approval).
"I called DEKRA today and explained the modifications I had made to my car. The expert told me that, in my case, no registration or approval was required because the Ambition sports suspension was also covered by the European Type Approval (ABE)."
Therefore, I can probably skip the TÜV (technical inspection) appointment, and I still have the ABE (approval certificate).

I'll definitely get a second opinion on this (by calling the TÜV), but the reasoning sounds convincing.

Alex.
