Alpha 5 Manual: Instructions & User Guide (2002)

Hi.
After disconnecting and reconnecting the battery in my new used car, the radio (Alpha 5) is asking for a code and displaying '1000' on the screen.
Unfortunately, I don't have the instruction manual, and now the display shows 'SAVE' with a '2'. How can I enter the code?

Hi,

You could have entered the code using the buttons 1-4. Button 1 would be for the first digit, button 2 for the second digit, and so on. At the end, you confirm by pressing the search/start button.
With SAFE2, you have to keep the device powered on until it reaches 1000 again. Unfortunately, with SAFE3, that's the end.

I had it running briefly after the display showed 1000. Then I took it out because my neighbor wants to use the device for his Golf. Now I don't remember which button I had to press. But if it worked with the 1000 displayed, shouldn't that actually be the code? Or am I mistaken ?

If necessary, the VAG dealer who sold me the car along with the radio without an instruction manual and without a code card will have to take it back. They will then have to find a solution.

You are mistaken. According to Volkswagen's calculation algorithm, the code cannot be 1000. The code is calculated from the serial number. A code card is not necessary.
