Steering Angle Sensor: How to Recalibrate? (Solution)

I replaced the steering wheel on a 2000 Audi A6 2.5 TDI Quattro, and also the clock spring (rotary switch).

Now the ESP and ABS systems are indicating that the steering angle sensor is not calibrated.

How can I adjust it using VAG-COM?

Hello, I'm happy to say that it's been fixed – the steering angle sensor has been recalibrated, and ESP and ABS are working again.

For those of you who might also be considering replacing the steering angle sensor, here are my experiences:

Before starting the modification, you should read the module coding of the ABS control unit using VAG-Com. In my case, this coding had reset to 00000, and I hadn't noted down the original values. After a difficult search on the internet, I was finally able to decipher the procedure and the correct code.
'The module code can only be changed if you know the corresponding login code and the correct module code for the vehicle. The login code is structured as follows: The first digit is followed by a digit that indicates the brake system (FN3/ATE brake: 5; HP2 brake: 4), then a digit that indicates the engine (6-cylinder diesel: 5; 6-cylinder gasoline: 9), and finally a digit that indicates the transmission (6-speed manual: 5; Tiptronic: 7). For my car (FN3 brake, 6-cylinder diesel, Tiptronic), the login code is therefore 07557.'
The module code is structured similarly, but with different numbers: 06 indicates the brake system (FN3 brake 2; HP2 brake 3). The next digit represents the engine (5 for a 6-cylinder diesel, 9 for a 6-cylinder gasoline engine). The following digit indicates the transmission, using the same numbers as in the login process. For my vehicle, the module code for the ABS is 06257.

3. The complete procedure for recoding the ABS module and adjusting the steering angle sensor is as follows:
with VAGcom, the menu codes for VAG1551 are indicated in parentheses.

It takes some time for the ABS light to turn off (in my case, it was a few minutes). When both the ESP and ABS lights are off, everything is okay.

'Before buying a new retaining ring, you should make sure that the one you have doesn't have the necessary 5-pin connector. Mine did have this connector, which might be related to the heated seats, as there's also a connector for a heated steering wheel. I only noticed this after I had already installed everything. I could have saved myself a lot of money and the adjustment process.'

Okay, if anyone needs one, I still have a replacement ring for a shift paddle steering wheel.
