Audi A3 8P Steering Angle Sensor G85

I have a customer's vehicle here under warranty, and it's driving me crazy.

Audi 8P, 2003.

Error: Steering angle sensor G85.

I replaced it with one from Febi, but that one was new and unfortunately defective, which caused me to waste a week troubleshooting.

A new OEM part has now been installed, and it paired successfully without any issues. Since then, the error is no longer persistent but occurs sporadically.
I can't pinpoint the exact cause, as it sometimes happens after 2 hours of driving without any issues, and other times just 20 seconds after starting the engine.

I don't have anyone who can help me with this, and all the Bosch service centers and similar companies are refusing to assist.
My VW mechanic mentioned things like wheel sensors, etc., but I checked everything through the measurement blocks while driving, and everything seems to be fine.

Something's not quite right; I can't seem to see the forest for the trees, or maybe I'm stuck and missing something.

Perhaps someone among you has a tip or idea about what I can check to make progress.

You mentioned that the error sometimes appears 20 seconds after starting. Does this mean the error occurs even when the vehicle is stationary, or only while it's moving?

If it only occurs while driving, I would suggest logging the individual wheel speeds during straight-line driving and cornering over a longer period of time to see if there are any occasional anomalies. (This is only possible on some vehicles at low speeds (<20 km/h, I believe).)

I logged the wheel speeds, and they were all within normal range.

I think I just found the error.

Fault code: Steering angle sensor (G85) defective.

Replaced with a Febi part; not programmable, which is a shame considering the time spent troubleshooting and attempting to program it. At least the Febi was a new part.

Then I ordered the part from an OEM supplier, and now a package arrived with "OEM" printed on it.
It was easy to pair initially, but now I'm getting error code 07788: steering angle sensor, intermittently. I've been troubleshooting this for over a week.

Today, I installed a steering angle sensor from a Volkswagen Golf V. This vehicle is currently in my inventory as a sales car.
After re-pairing, all the errors have disappeared.

I've test-driven it several times now, and each time I've checked the error codes, there are none – no intermittent errors, nothing at all.
Parking, unparking, turning left and right - no errors.

It was obviously due to both of the non-OEM sensors, as the one from the Golf V works perfectly fine.

Thank you for your help. When it comes to two new steering angle sensors, one wouldn't necessarily think of those specific components.

Here's some feedback again, following the previous feedback .

Since I still can't believe it, but the A3 has been working perfectly without any issues since yesterday, I just installed the Metzger OEM sensor into the Golf, which is where I removed the original VW steering angle sensor that was intended for the A3.

Immediately, the same problems that were present in the A3 model appeared in the Golf.
So, as unbelievable as it may seem, it's actually true.
The febi part couldn't be paired initially. The Metzger part can be paired, but it displays the error message "Steering angle sensor intermittently."

It took me three weeks to do that.

In the future, I will only use original parts for this type of component.
