Or have I made a huge mistake somewhere, and does the FZP work differently than I thought?
in axial piston pumps?

Everything except the FZP functions completely differently compared to a VP37.
The distributor piston in a VP44 pump is highly susceptible to damage if air is present. Even without air, significant movement can occur during load changes. The gap between the housing and the piston can then be reduced to as little as 1 µm.

Based on the cross-sectional diagram you linked, it can be seen that the VP44 definitely is...
The wing-mounted fuel pump could potentially draw in diesel fuel, which is why a VP44 fuel injection pump is used.
I think I'd still like it, even if it can't be completely vented.

Could the impeller pump potentially suck in air, which could also cause...?
Do not fill VE4, VP36, or VP37 containers from a dry line.
(ehrlich gesagt, aus eigenen Versuchen kenn ichs nur von versch. VE4)

hello, Jockel

The problem is that the vane pump isn't able to pump enough air to create a vacuum in the supply line, and the distance from the pump to the tank is long. Since the VP44 operates internally at 24 bar, you would need to compress the air inside the pump to 24 bar in order to achieve a flow and draw diesel from the tank. Any other standard pump would also be completely overwhelmed. I have no idea why they didn't install a pre-pump like they do on gasoline engines.
