AAZ Engine: EURO II Conversion?

Hey fellow DIY enthusiasts!

Can the Golf III TD, manufactured in 1992 with an AAZ engine, be converted to meet Euro II emissions standards? The car originally came from the factory with a catalytic converter (currently meeting Euro I standards). My father was able to have his Audi 80 TDI, manufactured in 1994, converted without any modifications (confirmed by VW). There is indeed a catalytic converter available for Euro II compliance... but it costs 270 euros, and the VW dealerships are, as always, uncooperative! Thank you very much in advance!!!!!!

'Yours doesn't have an EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system; it wasn't installed until later AAZ engines. And although someone once tried to prove me wrong, I haven't found anything yet that would allow you to bypass or modify it without making changes.'

The only solution is to install a new Euro 2 catalytic converter. There are apparently people on eBay who sell the approval certificate (ABE) without the catalytic converter, so you can register it that way if you don't have a Euro 2 catalytic converter at all (or, ideally, if you can find a used one online).

The actual value of the Euro 2 catalyst cannot be measured. The maximum permissible turbidity remains at 2.0. Only the technical inspector might address this if they are interested. Be aware that manipulating emissions data can constitute tax evasion!
