VAG-COM/VCDS on Mac OS X Leopard: Solved!

I've been using an Apple Macbook for a few weeks now.

I am looking for recommendations, tips, or experiences regarding the following configuration:

A USB serial interface that works under Leopard.

VAG-COM installed under CrossOver (Wine).

I'm planning to get rid of this old Windows laptop soon.
The USB-serial interface from the old laptop is recognized under Leopard, the driver is loaded, but the device is not responsive .
VAG-COM runs without any issues using CrossOver.

Unfortunately, Crossover cannot install device drivers, therefore, using the USB-Serial adapter is not possible in this case .

As a workaround, I found the following solution:

Install a suitable version of Windows in Parallels (similar to VMware on macOS), (of course) install all updates, and then install VAG-COM within the virtual machine.
Then, of course, connect the USB adapter and install the driver within the Windows version of the virtual machine.
The rest is routine (test, save).

No errors occurred during operation with VAG-COM in this combination.
When Windows is running in a Parallels VM on a Mac, the battery life is almost halved, lasting approximately two (2) hours (instead of four to five hours).
However, this is related to the fact that Leopard is much more energy-efficient than Windows (in my case, Windows XP).

So, if anyone ever decides to buy a Mac, hopefully this topic will save them some uncertainty.

I came across this thread through Google and wanted to add a quick comment. In general, I would advise against using VMWare, Parallels, and VirtualBox, because each time, a complete version of Windows is loaded within Mac OS X. This puts a strain on all of the computer's resources.

You just need to insert the adapter into your Crossover Bottle.

Due to inquiries, update: The VCDS diagnostic system with a USB connection can also be used on a Mac via Bootcamp (recommended), Parallels, VMware, and, for example, Windows XP.

How much storage space does VCDS require?
Does VCDS run on Parallels if it was previously installed natively via Bootcamp?

Based on my own experience, almost everything works on a Mac with Windows if it's installed natively. I can test later whether it works in a virtual machine after it's been installed natively.

If you install Windows natively, it's no longer a Mac, but a Windows PC.
Why shouldn't it work there?
The disk space required is quite manageable; it's so low that I haven't included it in the system requirements because it's irrelevant. Currently, it's approximately 65MB.

I've been using Parallels on my MacBook for quite some time.
Sometimes VCDS runs well, but my Mac is quite old, so it can be a bit slow at times.
I actually only bought a Windows netbook because of VCDS.

I have that too, but now I finally took the step of installing Windows XP Service Pack 3 (Bootcamp). Consequently, the netbook will be sold again, and VCDS will be used with the Macbook.
