Hello everyone,
I've been using my Apple Macbook for a few weeks now.
I'm looking for recommendations or tips/experiences regarding the following configuration:
A USB-Serial interface that works with Leopard.
VAG-COM, installed with CrossOver (Wine).
I'm planning to get rid of my old Windows laptop soon.
The USB-Serial interface from the old laptop is recognized by Leopard, the driver is loaded, but the device is unresponsive
VAG-COM is running with CrossOver without any issues.
Greetings,
makro Opel Vivaro Kombi, 2.0 CDTI 110kW BlueHDI (MKB: AH01), BJ 2020

Hello,
Unfortunately, Crossover cannot install device drivers, so using the USB Serial Adapter is not possible :(
As a workaround, I have found the following solution:
Install a suitable version of Windows in Parallels (similar to VMware on OSX), (of course) install all updates, and install VAG-COM in the VM.
Then, naturally, connect the USB adapter and install the driver in the Windows version within the VM.
The rest is routine (testing, saving) :)
In this configuration, no errors were encountered when using VAG-COM.
When Windows runs in a Parallels VM on a Mac, the battery life is almost halved, lasting approximately two (2) hours (instead of four to five hours).
This is because Leopard is significantly more power-efficient than Windows (in my case, Windows XP).
Therefore, if anyone is considering purchasing a Mac, this topic should hopefully alleviate some of their concerns.
Greetings,

Hi!
I came across this thread through Google and wanted to add a quick comment. In general, I would advise against using VMware, Parallels, and VirtualBox, as they all require a complete Windows installation within macOS X, which puts a strain on the computer's resources.
Instead, you should simply insert the adapter into your Crossover bottle:

Best regards,
Tim
P.S. The questions during registration are a bit "strange"... |

How much space does VCDS need?
Does VCDS run over Parallels if it has been installed natively via Bootcamp, and then?
My own experience tells me that, since everything works on the Mac with Windows when it's installed natively, it should also work in a virtual environment. I can test whether it works in a virtual environment later, after it has been installed natively. Caddy 3 mit BLS Motor, 105PS, DPF (0603/AGB)

Hello,
If you install Windows natively, it's no longer a Mac but a Windows PC.
Why shouldn't it work then?
The space required on the hard drive is quite manageable, it's so low that I've omitted a specification in the system requirements, as it's irrelevant: e.g. about 65MB.

I have been using Parallels on my MacBook for quite some time.
I also use VCDS occasionally, and it works quite well, but my Mac is a bit old and starts to slow down.
I actually bought a Windows netbook specifically for VCDS. Kaum macht man es richtig, funktioniert es! |

I did that too, but now I finally took the plunge and installed Windows XP ServicePack 3 (Bootcamp). As a result, the Netbook is being resold, and VCDS is being used on the Macbook. Seat Ibiza 6L Cupra TDI.
