Hello,
I urgently need help.
My car's automatic transmission was supposed to be replaced today. However, the process stopped when it came time to reinstall the right engine mount.
I really need some advice. Should I lift it from the top or the bottom? Should I raise or lower the engine?
An experienced mechanic is helping me, but he's also out of ideas.
It might be great if I could possibly call someone about this. Gruß

No problem, Roger.
There's very little space. Skillfully, you lift the engine. It requires some finesse, but the engine can be moved far enough. Try to get the part past the engine towards the splash guard first, and then, once the engine is lifted slightly, maneuver it into its correct position.

Yes, yes, it's really a hassle dealing with those horizontally mounted ones.
"With the Audi A3 and TT models equipped with the 1.8T engine, you can't get the tensioner pulley in or out at all once the timing belt is fully installed."
You need to guide the belt around the holder and slide it up or down . For the 1.9 TDI, it is recommended to completely remove the intake manifold and, if necessary, raise or lower the engine with a jack to move it forward and backward. Once you get the hang of it, it's not difficult. But that statement applies to almost everything. B.Eng (FH) u. KFZ Meister

Hi,
Puh.
I'm definitely not doing that again in this lifetime.
Thank you for the tips, especially to Matthias. Gruß

Don't panic, it will work out next time.

With my current tools and available space, I probably won't ever be able to perform a timing belt replacement myself, and so I'm essentially asking a question like someone who is blind asking about colors - but still, fundamentally:
"Putting it together the same way you take it apart" usually works, as long as there are no self-locking mechanisms or other "one-way" parts involved.
Therefore, you must have chosen a different assembly sequence than the one used for disassembly. Can this be explained in a few short keywords for someone who is blind, or am I completely wrong? Gruß Ulf

In theory, that's true, but in practice, it's not .
Usually, the engine mount falls out on its own, and then putting it back in can be a bit difficult. Or do you know which path that part took when it fell? .... Gruß Bertil

Hello Ulf,
It's pretty much as Bertil already wrote. We initially left the bracket in a position that was as unobtrusive as possible and built everything around it. When the tensioner had to be removed, the bracket had to be moved slightly to the side. And even though this blasted thing wouldn't come out after 20 minutes of fiddling, it eventually almost fell to the ground on its own. With just a couple of movements, it plopped into the coolant drain pan right before our very eyes.
During the installation, we had already adjusted the height of the motor to improve access to the belt drive, and everything about the assembled belt drive was perfect. Without loosening the tensioner, we probably would have never been able to get the bracket back into place.
The problem is the complex U-bracket of the holder, which always gets stuck somewhere in the belt drive or in the labyrinth of the timing belt cover, and its dimensions, which are too large for the limited space. Whoever designed this mess should, if it were up to me, have to do it every day for a whole week . Gruß

Good morning.
I'd like to chime in here as well.
Gesten Abend hatte ich den G4 ALH meines Kumpels am Wickel. ZR completely!
Since I've already replaced several timing chains, it shouldn't be a problem.
Dann die böse Überraschung mit dem re. Motorlager.
So, whoever came up with this... thing! Or am I just too stupid to understand?
Is there a trick that I don't know about?
Whether the engine was mounted vertically, horizontally, or transversely, it just didn't quite work, and it ended up hitting the splash guard.
"It interfered with the climate control lines. It was a real pain to fix. But regardless, 4.5 hours later, the thing was running again (still need to check the SB)."
Maybe someone has a tip on how to make replacing the engine mounts easier.
Best regards, Obelix.

Hello,
I recently also completed the ZR, WAPU, and tensioner training courses!
I removed everything that was in the way, especially the coolant hoses, the expansion tank, the differential, and the serpentine belt tensioner!
I left the engine mounts in the engine compartment and secured them in the best position using cable ties. I think they were attached to the air conditioning pipes.
The belt itself was a piece of cake on the Pd, especially when I think back to my AHF!
Then everything was reassembled.
Best regards, Ferdi.
