Airbag control unit replaced, now error 00589.

Hello everyone,
In my T4, the airbag control unit was defective, according to VAG-COM. Error codes 65535 and 00532. I was able to fix error 00532, which was a broken cable at the alternator connection. Although I could delete the error codes with VAG-COM, they kept reappearing. That's when I realized that my brother has a Golf 3 1.9 TD and he has the same airbag control unit. So I took it out and compared the part numbers. Both control units were identical. Part number 6N0909603E, and there were no error codes stored in the Golf. So I installed it in the T4 and connected it. Now I have error message 00589, "Passenger airbag resistance too high." The annoying thing is that the T4 doesn't even have a passenger airbag. I have therefore deactivated the passenger airbag, but the error cannot be deleted. Can someone help me delete the error? It should actually be possible to clear it by coding the control unit, but I don't have the login code. And if so, how do I re-code it? Does anyone have any advice?
Ah, that's a TF 1.9 Ltr ABL engine, manufactured in 1996. As mentioned, the airbag control units are identical.

- Airbag STG (15)
- Anpassung (10)
- Kanal auswählen (01)
- Anpassungswert (00001; 00000 wäre zum erneuten Aktivieren)

Hallo Micha,
das hatte ich schon gemacht, der Fehler bleibt aber, ich nehme mal an das er einen Widerstand vom Beifahrerairbag erwartet. Ich weiss auch welche Kabel das am Stecker zum Steuergerät sind (5&6) aber ich weiss nicht welchen Widerstand ich dazwischen klemmen muß. Ich meine mal etwas von 2,5 Ohm gehört zu haben, kann das jemand bestätigen?

Hallo Alex,
das mit dem Widerstand stimmt (wobei ich dir zum Wert nichts sagen kann).
Offiziell wird beim deaktivieren der Airbag (zusätzlich zur Deaktivierung im STG)
abgeklemmt und an seiner Stelle ein Widerstand 1H0 998 521 B bzw. 3B0 998 521 B (je nach Fahrgestellnummer) verbaut.
Kostenpunkt der Widerstände: ca. 30€

Oder 0,05 Euro selbst in der Elektronik-Apotheke namens Conrad ... und dann noch ein Stückchen Klebeband. Das soll jetzt keine Anleitung zur Frickelei an sensiblen, sicherheitsrelevanten Systemen sein aber der VW-Preis ist ja wohl eine Frechheit.

Nachtrag: Falls Du es doch vor hast (was ich nicht gut finde) versuche 2,2 oder 2,7 Ohm und löte den Widerstand fest, so kann er sich nicht selbständig machen. Gute Isolierung ist Pflicht.

Falls Du den OEM-Widerstandswert wissen willst, bestell das Teil bei VW, mess es mit einem Multimeter durch und gib ihn zurück (vorher Fragen ob das möglich ist).

Hallo zusammen,
danke für die Tipps und bitte nicht missversrehen ich will da nicht dran "rumfrickeln" nur er hat definitiv keinen Beifahrerairbag und das Golf Steuergerät ist auf 2 (Fahrer u. Beifahrerairbag) codiert und deshalb der Widerstand dazwischen. Für das umcodieren will VW 99,12 € haben und dann kann ich mir beinahe ein neues gönnen. Ich werde da am Samstag mal beigehen und dann berichten.

Hallo Markus,
muß zu meiner Schande gestehen das ich noch nicht dazu gekommen bin die Widerstände zu verbauen. Ist für das Pfingstwochenende geplant. Ich werde dann auch berichten. Das Steuergerät kann man nicht umcodieren, die einzige Möglichkeit ist die Widerstände zwischen zu klemmen. Ich komme aus dem Raum Hannover.
