Hello everyone,

Does anyone know about this error?
The space heater is original VW.
Is there a repair kit available? If so, what exactly do I need to disassemble in order to replace this sensor?

Thank you for your information.

Sg Christian

Ps: Car scan in the attachment.

Hello everyone,

Here's the solution:
{SOLUTION}

The sensor G189 is directly integrated into the STH.
The STH is mounted on the left side (driver's side).
The following items need to be removed:

- Bumper
- Headlights
- Aim under the spotlight (approximately 35cm long)
- Fuel filter (to accommodate windshield washer fluid reservoir)
- Remove windshield washer reservoir, including Fuel Cap (Loosen and pull forward in the direction of travel)
- Remove the cables from STH
- Disconnect coolant hoses
- Remove the coolant hoses
- Remove fuel line
- STH can now be expanded (using two screws)
- Remove the exhaust from STH

Now, let's talk about the sensor:

- Unscrew the coolant connections (one screw in the middle, be careful, there are two O-rings there)
- Remove the plastic (hang it up four times, and then push it down)

Now, two sensors appear: one with a red cable and one with a blue cable.
These are only available together, so both need to be replaced.

Since the blue sensor is the G 189 of this, it had a KS (damage) on the housing.

To replace the sensors, the STH still needs to be further disassembled.

- Remove the plastic cover on the opposite side, similar to how the first one was removed.
- Unplug the cables ==> all three
- Unscrewing the control unit (otherwise you won't be able to get the cable of the new sensor into the designated place)
- Remove the control unit and pay attention to the seal !
- Remove the plastic cover on the exhaust side
- Remove sensor holder
- Remove sensors with pliers
- spray new sensors with a little silicone spray
- Sensor placement
- Insert sensors into the new holder by screwing
- Assemble the cables and everything in reverse order.

Important: Make sure the control unit is properly positioned right now, as there are guides on the side. Otherwise, you could bend the motor's connections! Secure the housing evenly.

If you reach that point, you still need to delete the errors in memory.
To do this, you must first unlock the heating device. To do this, use VCDS and go to Engine Control Unit 18 => Adjustment Channels => select "Heater Unlock" or similar => enter 1 and save.
Now the error memory can be deleted as usual.
The adjustment automatically reverts to 0, at least for me.

Estimated time: approximately 4 hours, but definitely achievable in less time.
The sensors cost €80 at Friendly, and have part number: 1K0 815 111 A
