Hello!

A trim piece has come off my 20-year-old Golf 4 due to the recent hot weather.
Specifically, it's located inside the car, above the passenger-side door, and therefore has the same color as the car's headliner.
I'm going to try right now to see if I can upload the image from my phone.

So, the strip is apparently glued to the rubber seal on the door, although I couldn't detect any adhesive residue.
Door seals are typically made of rubber or EPDM.
The strip is on the side that needs to be glued, I think, and it's probably PVC.

I've already tried gluing things together three times.
With the adhesives available.

The first attempt used ordinary office glue, and that just didn't work.
The second attempt was with a type of adhesive similar to contact cement, but I only used a small piece to test it, and it didn't work at all.

Yesterday, I removed the adhesive residue and then glued it back on using spray adhesive, which is actually intended for this type of thing.
Of course, spray it into a small container, apply it with the brush on both sides, and let it dry. Follow the instructions carefully.
It looked good and it also lasted. Then I thought, it's okay.

However, today, in the full sun, the stripe came down again icon_redface.gif.

Does anyone have any ideas about what kind of adhesive I should use?
Grüße, Steffen!

Yes, IsoProQ. I used that to glue the headliner in my Audi 80. According to the data sheet, it holds up to 120°C, it's suitable for painting, and – most importantly – it actually held.
Common adhesives hold up to 90°C. Of course, any old residue needs to be removed.

Are you sure that's not a profile that's being held in a groove or something similar?

Hello!

Yes, I am. Of course, I've looked at the other side.
The top part is inserted into a slot, and the bottom part, near the dashboard, is inserted into the door seal. There's nothing in between to clip or attach anything to.

I had already glued it on before, and it looked neat then, just like the original.
But unfortunately, it didn't stay up for long... until it came down again.

Yes, I need to see if I can get the adhesive you recommended. Or something similar.

Sure, no problem! Here's the translation:

"Thank you in advance!"
Grüße, Steffen!

https://www.sound-pressure.de/CHP-2-K-Lederkleber-waermeaktivierbar-inkl-Haerter-600ml

It sticks and holds well, at least with artificial leather; I used it to cover my A-pillar trim.
It's not quite easy to process.

Hello,

There are heat-resistant spray adhesives, but the maximum temperature they can withstand is often only listed on the corresponding data sheet, not on the can itself.

Best regards, Rainer.

Is a suitable adhesive potentially more expensive than a (used) replacement part?

Possibly, this contact adhesive might be helpful: http://www.sabakleber.de/12.html

"For things like that, I use spray adhesive from Tesa. It's important to follow the drying times, and if possible, spray both sides."

Post16-08-2018, 20:44    Subject: Plastic Adhesive for Interior Car Parts Translating...

Hallo!

Na, mal sehen, was morgen passiert.

Gruss,

Hi!
