2.5 TDI - Error in instrument cluster during fuel injection start test

Hello everyone,

I have a 2004 Passat 3BG 4M with Tiptronic transmission.

At the beginning of the year, I replaced the VEP (variable valve lift) unit with a refurbished one because the old one was electrically defective (the cable from the engine control unit to the injector nozzle adjuster had melted, causing a short circuit).

I even bought the VCDS software to practice with. Connecting the VEP (Vehicle Electrical System) to the control unit was straightforward. Adjusting the injection timing also worked, and it's now within its target range.
Folgendes Problem bekomme ich aber auch nach Reparatur der Düsenstöcke und Austausch des LMM nicht in den Griff: er hat mangelhafte Leistung und raucht stark. Wenn ich in der Grundeinstellung den Einspritzzeitpunkt prüfen möchte, geht im KI die Meldung "Motorstörung WERKSTATT!" auf, die erscheint dann etwa 3 Sekunden, geht ganz kurz aus und blinkt dann wieder im selben Zeitrahmen auf usw. bis ich die Grundeinstellung verlasse. Es ändert sich dann der Motorlauf in normal und kein Fehler ist da. ANothing is stored in the memory either.

Only in the GSTG system does the error message "Engine control unit: implausible load signal" occasionally appear.

Is there anyone in the area around postal code 32457 who is more knowledgeable about engines and could explain the symptoms I'm experiencing?

By the way, the VTG (variable turbine geometry) is visibly common. Also, the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) seems to be working, because when I disconnect the vacuum hose, the error message "regulation limit reached" eventually appears.

Similar effects can occur in many control units during diagnosis (meaning a different operating state than normal), and this is not uncommon or unusual; it's often normal for the issue to resolve itself.

"Smoke color? White smoke indicates unburned diesel fuel (you can smell it), or unburned motor oil (which has a different odor). Black smoke suggests extremely late injection timing or a lack of air."
